- By Guest [gb] Date 05.03.05 23:13 UTC
Hello,
My family & I have 2 American Cocker Spaniel bitches. We are interested in breeding 1 in particular. We are very new to breeding & need advice & help! They are 14 months old & are KC registered. Both have already completed their first season. Anyone out there willing to help would be greatly appreciated!!

Sincerely,

Carrie

Hi Carrie,

The best advice to offer you is firstly, if you bought your bitches from a reputable source recognised by one of the breed clubs or recommended to you by someone with knowledge of reputable breeders, is to go back onto said breeder(s) for their advice and opinion on the merits of breeding.  (This is on the assumption that the registration papers are not endorsed to prevent breeding)

Your bitches are currently much too young to be bred and there will be health tests required to be carried out on them which they will need to pass before you can responsibly decide whether either of them should produce puppies.  Basically, there's a lot to know and it's all depending on various factors, lots of research etc.

Why not join and you can ask specific questions, get more detailed replies and be able to fill in any blanks so that info provided is as accurate and helpful as possible?

Regards, Teri :)
