I'm a volunteer for breed rescue, and recently placed a (supposedly neutered) bitch in her new home.  Unfortunately, the new owner came downstairs yesterday morning to a stilborn pup.  It's obviously been upsetting, particularly the bitch and new owner.  Her vet is giving her medical attention, but is there any advise breeders could give me to pass on regarding the best way to handle her from a mental / emotional point of view, and is there anything she should look out for?  Many thanks for any help or advice you can give.

She should be treated like a bitch with a phantome pregnancy.  Have extra excersie, have any comfor4t objects (surrogate pups), nests, in extreme cases even bedding taken away.

If she is in ggod bodily condition her food shoudl be reduced by around 25%, and the Protein level reduced to say a veteran diet level until any milk dries up.

the whole idea is to take the bitches mind off it all, and the food reduction will tell her bosy that she hasnt any to spare ofr feeding pups.

I would do as Brainless says, it may be very distressing for the bitch in the very short term but she will not mourn very long.

One of my bitches gave birth to a stillborn pup. I know how the bitch and owner must feel.
I found the best thing to do was to give her extra exercise, involve her in new things, so we went to a new training class and as Brainless said keep her occupied, take away nest materials and toys she might be using as surrogate pups.
