Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Opinions on 'belly bands'?

I have a male Westie who is nearly two. By about 6 months he was fully toilet trained. I was advised by the vet not to have him neutered until he was 9 months to allow his bones to mature fully. By seven months he started to lift his leg, indoors and out, sometimes on his walks he will lift twenty or thirty times. despite sticking to all the training  principles which had worked first off (and with other dogs before him) I have not yet been able to stop him urinating indoors, sometimes i come home to 3 or four small puddles. he has even urinated on MY LEG when out in the park if he's upset by another dog or particularly excited, and has on a few occasions weed on my bed (also his bed!)  He is particularly prone to marking 'different things' that I accidentaly forget and leave on the floor,  and its nigh on impossible to have a new piece of furniture as the stress is too much trying to 'protect' it!

My question is, what do people think of the use of a belly band? I saw a mention of it in another thread and visited the site...its basically a piece of material which is wrapped around the dogs middle with an absorbent pad inside, the idea being that the dog learns that its unpleasant to 'mark' indoors.

Just a bit more info, I take my dog out for a quick around the block in the morning, at lunchtime and then for an hour early evening and he is let out into the garden at will. I have tried cleaning the marked areas with all sorts including stuff from the vets and I actually felt that the more i cleaned, the more he marked. I don't think he has an infection as he is generally very healthy, urine isnt offensive and he goes through the night (8 hours) without incident.

I would really appreciate any opinions on the belly bands or other perspectives as i am feeling rather worn down and this problem means there are only a few places (dog lovers homes!!) where i can take him!!

Thank-you

Hi Guest i have several friends who use Belly Bands and the dogs do fine with them .They seem to be extremely useful where you have Stud Boys in residence cos we all know what the lttle devils are like for marking etc.I have not used them myself, but certainly would not hesitate if my boys started the practice of lifting their legs in the wrong place. LOL.
