I am doing a grooming course and my  home work this week is the Lowchen, can anyone give me some information on this breed please, I have to know- position in society, any health problems, and grooming requirements. Will there be any Lowchens at crufts next week?
many thanks

Hi Woodsford - I have two male löwchen.  I could tell you a lot about what it's like living with them but you may be after something a bit more formal :)
If you do a search on google there are a few websites which will give you info on the breed characteristics. And I'm sure the breed will be represented in the Discover Dogs section at Crufts.

The only thing I don't like about Löwchens is the way the coat is trimmed for the showring. Fortunately, as our 2 are pets, we never have to subject them to the 'lion' look :)

They have no major health problems but slipping patella does present in some lines - not uncommon in toy breeds.  My younger lad has this problem in both knees but you wouldn't think it if you saw the way he jumps, twists and runs :)

If there is anything else you think I can help with don't hesitate to ask :)

Lowchens will be at crufts next week throughout the 4 days on discover dogs. But if you want to see them in the ring you will need to go on the friday as that is toy day. You can find more info here http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/index.asp?section=crufts/cruftsframe.html and you can book tickets here http://www.necgroup.co.uk/visitor/whatson/1870 Hope this helps :)
