Ok I have decided that I need to lose 2 stone. I  cannot get on with diet clubs, so Im going to put the money that i save towards some nice new clothes when I lose some weight. Think my main problem is that bottle of wine sat in the fridge, so first step is to eat my 5 portions of fruit and veg per day and stay clear of the alchol! Suppose I should try more excercise but I do walk the dogs and find it hard to fit in visits to the gym etc. Not to mention an aversion to all those beautiful bodies that never get sweaty :o

Any suggestions anyone as to how to get more excercise with limited time?
- By ice_queen Date 28.02.05 09:39 UTC
How about walking the dog at a faster pace?  you can walk faster, so further, both helping!

Are you sure giving up alcohol will help or would it be better to let yourself have some, just limit it to a glass every other night? or similar.

Now it doesn't work for everyone but eat 3 meals aday, but only 3, only snacks is fruit.  Most people will find it's important to eat 3 meals.  Just make them all healthy and not to large!

and to help you is great big good luck vibes!  We are all behind you!

I think I will join you as I have put on nearly a stone since xmas.

I lost a stone and a half through dropping all fat from my diet (apart from cheese), limiting myself to one take away a month, using a juicer or smoothy maker and having a smoothie for breakfast with 2 of my daily portions of veggies or fruit in.

My fave recipy is:
Two banannas
One tablespoon of natural plain yoghurt
Half a pint of semi skimmed milk.

If you dont like bananna try:
Two apples
One kiwi
One lime

and rather than have the filling properties from milk and banana have 2 crisp bred with cottage cheese.

I also bought one of those lateral thogh trainers off the shopping channel and have an hour on that a day while having my quiet time. Not sure if its working or whether im just walking faster round the garden with the dogs lol. I do three laps 8 times a day and its too cold to be strolling slowly!
- By earl [gb] Date 28.02.05 13:51 UTC
Hi dark, I saw those lateral thigh trainers on tv the other night and quite fancied it.  Is it good?  How easy / difficult is it to use?  Am I right in thinking they're about £90?

I've been trying to lose weight since I was asked to be a bridesmaid last year and although I've done reasonably well, I still have more to lose and don't seem to be able to shift any more.  :(

Thanks

Earl

Its ok, beats going for a run every morning or suffering Jade Goody at 7am!!!!
Ive toned up a bit with it but you really need to diet too lol.
For the price they're a bargain.
- By earl [gb] Date 28.02.05 17:26 UTC
Thanks dark, might get one next month.  I thought we didn't diet anymore, we changed our eating habits!   It is soooo boring!

My other thought was one of those small Reebok trampolines.  Has anyone tried one of these?
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 28.02.05 09:59 UTC
Thanks for your support. I would have to get the dogs to take their noses off the ground to move faster. I think we may try and fit in an extra walk though.

Think it is probably best to try and cut out booze as after the first glass the second sounds like a good idea! May allow myself one glass at the weekend though ;)

Im not so good at cutting out snacks, my bit weakness is savory snacks like crisps.
- By ice_queen Date 28.02.05 10:06 UTC
if you walk faster dogs won't hve time to glue nose to ground.  I do fast 5km walks where the dogs (setters) are nearly at a trot
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 28.02.05 10:08 UTC
LOL I would be jogging with my labs so you must be nearly flat out!
- By Anna [gb] Date 28.02.05 13:19 UTC
Hi Bluebell,

Know what you mean about the wine.  I'm the same I can't have just one glass because I get addicted and have a few more.  I decided to not have any wine a few weeks ago and this lasted about 2 weeks but I back on it again, it helps me relax at the end of the day when all the kids are in bed.  Have you tried one of those steppers or air-walking machines.  I got a stepper but can't use it because I have arthiritus in my knees and the stepper just made them worse so it now sits in the hall taking room up.  Its your fault for being such a good cook and making all those lovely cakes that you make :-)  :-)
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 28.02.05 13:36 UTC
I know what you mean about knees. Mine are awful so tend not to use 'gym' equipment! Silly thing is I dont really eat my own cakes - there are just too many around all of the time. Anyway from choice I like savouries, especially after the 3rd glass of wine ;)
- By Anna [gb] Date 28.02.05 13:59 UTC
Yes I like savouries with wine and my partner and I usually have philadelphia cheese on ritz crackers at night or a bag of crisp.
- By thedark [gb] Date 28.02.05 14:04 UTC
Cant beat brandy butter on crackers. Has to be home made tho, the way my partners mum makes. mmmm
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 28.02.05 16:06 UTC
Hum your making me feel hungry! My fave is worcester sauce crisps or cheddars. Hubby says he never snacks - so where does all the chocolate go to then?
- By Anna [gb] Date 28.02.05 16:09 UTC
Oh yes my partner can eat chocolate like there is no tomorrow and he NEVER puts any weight on at all, its not fair is it?
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 28.02.05 16:11 UTC
Yep its not fair AND I get absolutly no sympathy when I dont loose the weight I had intended.
- By rubeee [gb] Date 28.02.05 14:53 UTC
Hi all
I posted on an old thread that I tried Paul McKennas book. Its fab. I've lost 6lb in two weeks and I'm not struggling at all (yet) Also its very relaxing. Problem is I always fall asleep. I'm not sure if it counts when i drop off :)
- By Enfielrotts [eu] Date 28.02.05 15:07 UTC
I know that a lot of the things in this eating plan are not that easy to come by or not to everyone's taste but if you have watched the 'you are what you eat' TV show or read the book I think you will agree that a lot of what Gillian says can be used in most of our daily routines - one great thing she does suggest is getting a trampette as 15 mins bouncing having fun and winding your dogs up is something like the equivalent of a 30 min run....much more fun :)

Also she does say that you can have as much veg and fruit (not bananas tho :( ) as you like, esp celery and cucumber - basically she calls it a new way of living rather than a diet as she claims diets never work in the long run!

I saw the program with great results and I also got the book for xmas, and its very interesting......my OH also got me colonic irrigation for my birthday which can shift pounds instantly.......looking forward to that LOL :0)
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 28.02.05 16:10 UTC
I like the idea of the trampet - easy on the knees. I may have to shut the dogs out though.

I have read the book 'you are what you eat' and can see loads of similarity with BARF. But I do find it a little extream for my tastes.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 28.02.05 16:08 UTC
I have his tape and probably should get round to listening to it, if I could find a tape player that works. Apperently it is quite good to fall asleep to it as it is going directly in to your subconcious.
- By Charanda [de] Date 28.02.05 16:39 UTC
My downfalls in life are:

Cheese
Wine
Bacon/Sausage sarnies
Chips
Curry
Bread
Chocolate
Potato's

I'd be a Size 8 if it wasn't for all of the above listed things!!  :-)
- By thedark [gb] Date 28.02.05 17:30 UTC
Thing is, if you eat lots of celery and tomoato (natural fat burner) with your meals you will lose weight.

I like "You Are What You Eat". Its just the idea of sitting troffing sunflower seeds is beyond me lol, I am not a rodent (IMO lol).

Bread is a killer. Bacon cannot exist without it, nor can eggs. I have tried switching from normal oil to olive oil and that helped a little. Nible bread is not as bad as normal white bread, brown bread is good for the heart. But its just not the same!!!

Take aways are a must, the dogs like their rice noodles i cannot deprive them of their noodles ( thats my story and im sticking to it).
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 01.03.05 12:49 UTC
Rice noodles are OK its what you put on them! Dont really ahve a problem with take aways, the one round here arent great and havnt had one in 10 years. Thanks for the smoothie recipies, unfortunately I dont really like milk or yougart, so playing around with different combinations - trouble is that fruit is quite expensive at the moment, so perhaps I should put the diet off till the summer when fruit is cheep ! ;)
- By thedark [gb] Date 01.03.05 13:03 UTC
No, its rice noodles. Im not wasting good oyster sauce on the dogs!!!!!!
You should watch the Jack Lillan Power Juicer ad on the shopping channel, they show some good mixtures. The carrot apple and ginger one looks great.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 01.03.05 13:06 UTC
Sorry dark, life is too short to watch the shopping channel! Does sound interesting recipe though.
- By thedark [gb] Date 01.03.05 13:19 UTC
I have it on in the background while im on the PC lol. I really shouldnt, ive spent £400 in the last 3 months on there, and im looking at becoming a pricedropper lol
What ill do is write some down for u and post them here lol.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 01.03.05 15:54 UTC
LOL now thats what I call multi tasking! I normaly restrict myself to running up and down so that I am on the PC whilst Im cooking. Can get rather messy sometimes though and the keyboard dosent like flour much.
- By thedark [gb] Date 01.03.05 16:02 UTC
Ive been on the phone for the last 3 hours too lol
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 01.03.05 16:09 UTC
3 Hours is that one call?!
- By thedark [gb] Date 01.03.05 16:35 UTC
yep, someone giving me an 18 month mile stone update on a puppy i bred. I've heard all the horror storys, how many toilet rolls have been shredded, how she learned to open doors and take over the house, that sort of thing.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 01.03.05 16:39 UTC
Oh my word I didnt know it was possible to talk for that long on the phone. Still it must be nice to get updates. Just hope you wernt planning anything else for this afternoon!
- By thedark [gb] Date 01.03.05 16:44 UTC
I always drop everything for owners of the dogs i have bred. I try to be there for them as much as possible. I even have calls diverted to the mobile while on holiday for them lol.
I have my partner at home for the next few days with his concussion anyway, so any routine has been killed lol.
He can deal with the choruses when water has run out in one of the rooms, "shes got my bone and i want it back", im on a day off lol.
- By thedark [gb] Date 01.03.05 16:59 UTC
Ok, for your diet i have a few fat burner juice recipies, a few sweet ones (for that sugar craving)  and some plain discusting ones i can only see acting as a laxitive lol.

2. 3 oranges
    1 pink grapefruit

3.  3 apples
     half a lime
     2 pears

4.  6 carrots
     150g spinache

- By Bluebell [gb] Date 01.03.05 17:14 UTC
Many thanks Dark. I will try some and try not to splatter the whole kitchen in doing so! So has OH learnet his lesson about drinking with the rugby team?
- By thedark [gb] Date 01.03.05 17:32 UTC
Nope lol
He's still sitting int he dark. Ive just had to bath one of the dogs and he's sitting on the sofa growling at her for shaking all over him lol. One down 5 to go lol.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 02.03.05 10:08 UTC
Morning Dark. You getting ready for crufts then?
- By thedark [gb] Date 02.03.05 22:11 UTC
I can't go to Crufts unfortunately. I watch it on TV.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 03.03.05 09:35 UTC
Probably the best way if you just want to see the dogs! Personally I go to check out the competition (my business is selling dog goodies) and support friends who have qualified, trouble is they are all on different days, so I tend to go for my fave gundogs.
- By thedark [gb] Date 03.03.05 14:08 UTC
I will be there next year, I simply cannot go this time as i have a bitch in season and cannot kennel her, The house/dog sitter i usually have is on holiday and to travel for 9 hours, go to the show on one day and travel the 9 hours back is not practical.
Once im back in England ill be at many shows, getting to know what goes on ready for my attempt at showing once my new pup arrives. I have a lot to learn with respect to showing and plan to spend most weekends in the summer at shows.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 03.03.05 14:41 UTC
Ah had no idea that you were so far away! Hope you have thermals if you plan to spend weekends at shows :D
- By thedark [gb] Date 03.03.05 14:45 UTC
Well once back down south i will be pretty central so will be within three hours of most shows. We really enjoy camping (we have a mobile house out tent is that big lol) so would just take off for the weekend and go to a few shows.
I'm really looking forward to becoming involved in showing. Its just waiting for this lad to arrive. He's currently just a twinkle in his sires eye, so i have time to educate myself a little about the ins and outs of the showing world. I plan to take some of my girls in the ring to get a little experience at open level before i get too serious lol.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 03.03.05 14:49 UTC
Sounds like a good idea to me. Where abouts are you planning on moving to? Only ask cos Im failry central :)
- By thedark [gb] Date 03.03.05 14:50 UTC
Im moving to East Yorkshire, close to Goole. Im right on the M64 and that goes onto the A1.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 03.03.05 14:52 UTC
Ooh err not quite my central! Im near Milton Keynes!
- By thedark [gb] Date 03.03.05 14:55 UTC
Im only 4 hours from London, 2 hours from bradford, 3 hours from oxford, 1 hour and a half from richmond and scotch corner. Compared to miles and miles from anywhere like i am not i class that as central. Lots of motorways, airports ( i believe Doncaster has opened and are flying you to Cyprus for £45 return) and LIFE!!! I really can't wait to get back to the busy life!
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 03.03.05 15:00 UTC
Who ever gave you those travel times? We are over an hour from central London and Oxford. Where are you at present shetland?
- By kayc [gb] Date 03.03.05 15:01 UTC
I was just about to ask the same thing, just curious, thedark, where are you?
- By thedark [gb] Date 03.03.05 15:02 UTC
Those times are from our new home lol, not here. I live near Grantown on Spay just now. Its miles from anywhere lol.
- By Bluebell [gb] Date 03.03.05 15:05 UTC
Im J12 on M1 - Toddington. Speyside is wonderful, my sister used to live in Aberdeen and her inlaws in Kirktown or auchterless, that really was the back of beyond. At least you have the distilleries to keep you warm :D
