Topic Dog Boards / General / bullmastiff owners advice

i would like to know if any bullmastiff owners let their dogs climb stairs and steps ?

I wouldnt advise allowing ANY large breed go up or down stairs or steps until over 14 months of age. It is too stressful on the joints and can add to the risk of the dog getting hip displacia later in life. It simply is not worth it.

I hope this helps.

It's a definite no no in books i've read on bullmastiffs, usually the breeder will tell you what the pup is aloud to do eg exercise and stairs.

hi maysea,
Like i have said before,it is your dog,so you do what YOU feel is best!
Life is always filled with different opinions, just do your research, and do what you feel best!(that sentance isnt meant to come across arsey-if it sounds like that!!!)
Another subject--BARF,i have read on your posts it doesnt agree with your dog,yet i swear by it!!!!!there is no right/wrong answer people do what they feel is best!
Like i have said before my dogs DO NOT go up/down the stairs, because they are so big/heavy it is putting un-necessary pressure on their joints. This is a known fact with large breed dogs.
Maybe its abit like smoking, its a known fact it causes cancers but not everyone who smokes gets it!!!im just the kind of person who says why chance it if you dont have too!!!!!!!!!!!
Take care,
