Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Scaly Tail

I have a 4 year old staffi. Over the past few days I have noticed the very end of his tail is quite scaly and very dry. Last night after returning home he was very excited at seeing us as usual but on wagging his tail he has hit the door and the scaly bit on his tail has started to bleed splattering blood all over my living room. I'm taking him to the vets tonight and was wondering if anybody had any ideas on what the problem could be and any advice on what I can do to help it heal. It doesn't seem to be bothering him too much but I'm worried about it getting infected. I would really appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance

Could he have got his trapped in something, after we rehomed our dog he had a scab on the end of his tail which kept getting knocked when he wagged his tail and kept bleeding.
