My friends dog is due to have her pups next week but she has been told not to handle the pups for 3 days as there is something they can pass onto her own baby she is carrying. I have never heard of this before and she is really worried now. Has anyone else?
Could be whoever gave the advice was thinking of Toxoplasmosis
Thats the one from cat poop & not dogs
The one from the sheep is covered [link http://www.babyworld.co.uk/individualfaq.asp?section=Pregnancy&question=73]here[/link] sorry the link doesn't work
Could they have been talking about Neospora caninum? The dog is its definitive host and can cause abortions in cattle, I am not sure about the people side of it so please consult your midwife and vet, Carol
I thought it might have had something to do with worms. They have said after 3 days the mother would have licked all the remains of the sac away and she will be safe to touch them. Apparantly it could cause the baby to be still born. She is obviously going to be cautious but is totally devestated as this is her first litter and dalmatians are so yummy when they are born you could eat them!
I was 8 months gone when I had a dally litter - and I helped deliver them... my son is fine and I wasn't warned about anything. Be interesting to know what it is.
