Hi there am just wondering what you lot put on your puppies diet sheet before they go to there new homes?

Must admit I only tell them the frequency of feeding and advise to feed less than the manufacturers advise by at least a 1/4 to 1/3rd.  As they already leave with food and all the supporting feeding advice provided by the maufacturers I don't like to confuse them too much.

I do show them in a beaker how much they are being fed at the time they go and tell them that at most they will tget up to 25% more as they grow dropping down again to adult maintenence levels.

I advise that new owners weigh the food and find a container that takes just the right amount for the daily ration.  I then advise that if the dog is getting a tad ribby they can give a heaped measure, and if it is getting a shde plump they can shale a bit off, never getting into a YO yo loss gain situation.

Should make it clear that I do put the feeding schedule in writing and refer them to the manufacturers guide with the advice to feed less.

A diet sheet describes the feeding routine you have used and the quantities you have fed, the food you have weaned the pup onto and the times you recommend switching onto junior and adult foods. Remember to mention any allergys that are in the pups background. For example i have 3 ladies with a wheat gluten allergy so my feeding guide explains carefully the likelihood of the pup having a similar allergy, what to and not to feed, what happens if an allergy does occur and how to deal with it.
Every breed is different, every dog food company has different products. It is up to you, and what you have learned through experience and your girl growing up how you advise the new owners to feed their pup.
Remember that the dogs diet dictates to quite a large extent how it will look in terms of its structure when it is an adult dog.

I give them a diet sheet with what I am feeding them on one week before they leave to ensure they get all the stuff in.  I do not feed my pups just on formula feed but lots of other things.  What you have to give them is what you are truthfully feeding them on not what you think they should be fed on otherwise they will end up with the runnies.

I put in both diet sheets for conventional complete dog food feeding and the 'old fashioned' meat and biscuits method.
The rough amounts I use and also the number of feeds the pup will need.
I give them a leaflet on the food I'm using and the various life stage varieties that they have and when it's a good idea to change to them/
I also state that if they want to change what puppy is currently fed on they should do it over a period of 5-7 days, slowly increasing the new food stuff and decreasing the old food stuff. Thus hopefully avoiding the stress of runny motions.
I also advise not to change pups food straight away and let them settle into their new homes first as this is stressful and changing thier food stuff at same time could put extra stress on pup.
I try and give them local stockists to them of the dog food that I have been using and also a 2kg sack of the food.

And a reminder that as puppy grows/meals are dropped, to increase amounts (Yes, I know, but you'd be surprised) - In other words, state the obvious, and give an indication of the right age to go on to adult feed.
