My bitch has started eating newspaper, her pups are 5 weeks old, they have vetbed with newspaper underneath, last night, she started to rip the paper and eat it..............anyone any Ideas why she is doing this???

bitches can have post partium contractions for a number of weeks after the puppies are born and ripping/chewing paper is their way of expressing pain.  It may be just a settling down of the uterus after whelping but I would keep an eye on it and if she carries on it may be a good idea to pop her along to the vets for a check up.

To be honest, I would have weaned the bitch from her puppies by now.   They could be hurting her with their little sharp teeth.     Tearing at things like that is usually an expression of pain.

Thanks for your replies, I was weaning her away steadily, but I do think it was the pups that were causing her pain, so she is completely away now,
