I saw an advert a good few months ago looking for a stud Norwegian elkhound.I phoned in the hope of advising the person to contact the breeder of their bitch for help and advise to find out theat the bitch was from the local puppy supermarket and was DLRC reg.
I advised the woman that all elkies should be hip scored and eye tested prior to breeding and since she was not KC reg it was not possible in the case of her bitch. We had a natter and she told me she had a young sibe male also and she would look into buying a suitable bitch to breed in the future.
Well she now has another advert in the free paper...for sibe x Elkhound pups!!!!....what a suprise ...NOT!

Accidental of course after all dogs don't mate bitches they live with :(  do they ? Bet they aren't free to a good home either !

My first BC was the result of a mating between a ten year old bitch who had never had puppies despite being mated to several different dogs in her younger days & hadn't had a season for three years & a 5 1/2 month old BC puppy dog ! who had climbed into her kennel & back to mate her, at least they were the same breed & it was 30 + years ago

GRRR!!!!!  Stupid woman, and I bet she won't tell buyers that the pups best never be let off lead, adn with the Elkie stockiness they won't even be any use a sled dogs, they'll have plenty of hunting instict, but won't have the Elkie less primitive attitude to make it more manageable.

I have posted the thread to Robert so that he will be aware of a future rescue problem :(

Poor pups which rescue if any will be picking up the pieces, not the easiest combo for the General homes to deal with.

Thanks for that Barbara...did wonder if he'd want to be made aware. The pups are in the Warrington area ....obviously our 'talk' just hit deaf ears!
Theres also a 10 month old pup for salein the same paper....guess where from!...so sad.Wish someone would close those b****y puppy supermarkets down!!!

the sad thing is we need more decent breeders and people involved with the breed to keep our gene pool viable, so it is so sad when this happens, if someone really wants to bereed and enjoy this aspect of their dogs then they should do it properly with the breeds, theri dogs and the pups and new owners welfare to the fore.
