I'm just back from the vets having taken 2 of them for their boosters and worming- Paddy, my big ginger tom is again suffering from tartar on his back teeth and inflamed gums and Rosie, long-haired tabby is also looking like she's getting tartar on her back teeth now too! Now Paddy has generally suffered from poor teeth and infact had one removed last July. They will not let me anywhere near their mouths with a toothbrush, they all dislike the CET chews although they do get Logic gel regularly. The vet has given me one of the small bags of Hill's Science TD to try them on to see how they like it which was nice of him, but I saw the price of it if I was paying for it and £6 odd for a 800g bag seemed extortionate to me!

I was considering switching them onto Burns for cats, but basically I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what to try or what works well when it comes to keeping their teeth clean? I'm going to pay a visit to the Dorwest stand when I'm down at Crufts so that will be something else to try, but I really don't want any of them to get to the stage where their teeth need work or removing!

My cats have fantastic teeth - although they are only 18 months old ;) They are fed burns and love it, they are also very good hunters and as a rule will eat what they kill so the crunchy mouse and vole bones clean their teeth as they are eating them. If yours dont hunt how about trying them on raw chicken wings ?

Can't really give any advice on how to clean them, as the cat I had never seemed to get over the red gums & bad teeth. In the end she had all her teeth out but the gingevitous (sp) never went. She was on tablets for most of her life, then I had to have her pts at quite an early age because the tablets messed with her internal organs.
George, who is now coming up to 15 years old also has most of his teeth removed he just has 4 left at the front and these stay clean on their own without any help from me.
Fortunately my other 2 cats seem to be okay with their teeth.
We did get a toothbrush once from the vet ....................... have you tried to clean the teeth of a cat??? I came off worse with the claws ....
never again, they can go to the vets for a dental if needed.

Homeopathic Fragaria? think thats the one for teeth.
Chicken wings. My dogs and my cat have ace teeth..... and you can reverse quite a lot of damage to teeth by feeding chicken wings.
My cat is a big wimp though and he will let me get a thumb in his mouth and pick off bits of plaque off his teeth.

Only the two boys hunt-my girl is too ladylike! :) And as a rule, nothing they catch is eaten, they prefer to leave it at the back door-for the dogs to run round the garden with... :D But I will try the chicken wings-although it has concerned me more as regards bones and the cats rather than with the dogs- I take it I don't have to worry? Think I will try them on the Burns too-they dogs are on it, so we'll see how it goes! :)

Hi My two are elderly past 20 and only Cleo (female) has ever had her teeth cleaned when she was abut 14/15 or so. Never before or since and both of mine have all their teeth too. I have never cleaned their teeth but when they were younger they had dried food couple of times a week and they used to hunt.
But other than that nothing maybe teeth good or bad are genetic.

my vet advised lamb chops for the cats teeth she said this would help as one of mine was developing tartar and had red gums she advised I fed them on a regular basis along with a dry food I also tried the logic paste it seems to work
Will maybe try the lamb chops too then! My vet thinks that poor Paddy is just one of these cats (like humans!) who are prone to teeth trouble! I'll also add that they are all rescue, Paddy was about 2 years old when we got him, so who knows, in those formative years is when the damage could have been done? Thanks for the advice though! :)

One of mine is also prone to teeth problems.
I already had them cleaned once and he is only 2,5 at the moment.
I had all the info about dry food (But he doesn't chew his food!! wet or dry!!)
and cleaning (ever tried brushing the teeth of a siamese cat !?!?!?!?!? :( )
