Can neutering a male cause them to bite another dog that they got on with before they were neutered and to become snappy with people?

Basically anythings possible :(  Perhaps the dog is in pain at present?  When was the op done?

Castration is not the behavioural cure all that some vets make it out to be.  The dog may have already been heading for a behavioural change at the same time as the procedure in which case being neutered would not solve the problem (unless hormone driven in the first instance).  You may need to provide more info to give a better picture of what's happening and why.

its a friends dog we used to walk hers with mine and all of a sudden he just turned on one of them snarling fur up for no reason, she also takes him down the school and he's started snapping at people that try to touch hi, he was neutered about 4 months ago. He was great with everyone and every dog before he was neutered.

So what age was he when neutered and why was it done?  Is he a Border Collie too?

ps. Must just say that your friend would be best to keep him away from a school with this behaviour :(

he was nearly 2 when he was neutered she has stopped taking him down the school because of his snappig as she doesnt trust him he's never done it to a kid but one day that might change, shes blaming herself for ruining her dog just for having him neutered, she had him neutered as the vet says they live longer and dont get as ill.
and he's a cross possibly collie with some labby

It's strange for a dog's behaviour to alter in this way at that age   I would first have him to the vet for a check-up as there could be an underlying health problem, nothing to do with his castration  :(

I would also be interested to know what sort of chaacter the dog had prior to castration.  Was he a very confident individual or the opposite rather submissive. 

If the latter it could be that the castration has taken away what confidence he had, and now he is fear biting.  Has other dogs attitudes changed towards him?  do other dog treat him like a bitch pestering him?  This could make him more defensive.

I would go with what the opther posters hagve said and rule out any health issues.

the issues should improve with training and conditioning if threi cause can be identified.  Most issues suroounding over confident males which is most often why males are castrated could more properly be adressed with training and maturity of the dog.
