I would be very interested to hear the views of other breeders on the cross breeding of a yellow labrador retriever bitch with a welsh springer spaniel sire. Have you come across this cross at all, and if so was it a successful match?

I would fail to see any good reason for doing this guest. Welsh Springers are generally not the working dogs of their English cousins, so would doubt it would be done for working reasons. It would rule them out of the show ring so really, the only reason would be as a "Designer Dog" bred for no good reason other that to try to convince the gullible to part with large sums of money for a rare "Breed"

No rhyme nor reason to it, I'm afraid.   You are much better to breed pure from health-screened parents.

Why would you purposely create a cross?  There are plenty enough breeds to choose from already.

And plenty of crossbreeds in rescue already without taking the risk of adding to them.

why would you want to breed them?it seems to be the fashion,breeding different dogs to see wat you get.or maybe its just a cheap way of making money by saying uve got a rare breed! are labradoodles registerd breed or a cross breed? ide never seen them befor first thought was a lab/poodle mix! probably wrong tho!

They are cross breeds & not a breed, in biological terms they are F1 hybrids

they seem to sell for quite a bit no wonder everyone wants to breed different dogs togeather!

Yes. It's been done before with English springers, and the ones I've met have been a great disappointment to their owners, who work their dogs so want something trainable. As pets I imagine they'd be a nightmare.

moneys just money,as long as the the puppies are happy and healthy thats wat should rearly matter,cross breeds you can never be sure how there gonna turn out.and if they turn out badly its always the dogs that end up paying!

i think the worst one was when someone mentioned on here breeding a great dane with a staffie.i wouldnt of thought it would of been possible,with the size difference and everything! x

theres a dog in obedience that is a accidental cross of a rottie X JR. hes kinda cute,but a accident not to be repeated!

accidents happen i just dont see why people would perpusley cross breed. £700 for a cross breed ,anyone who payes that much is mad.i remember there was a time wen you could get a cross breed for free or very little money. what is the world coming to!!!

I am in no way against crosses.  I have a Retriever/Pitbull - Labrador/Australian Sheppard cross...he was the result of an accidental breeding.  Only dog in the home was female, unaltered.  Son moved back in in the process of building a new house with his unaltered male (lab/shep.)... the ignorance of heat cycles led to 12 puppies.  After a lengthy discussion with my neighbor (who immediately scheduled the dogs for altering) I brought Meatball home, very comfortable in the fact that the dogs weren't bred purposely.

I am, however, against the purposeful breeding of dogs of different breeds.  The Schnoodles and labradoodles, etc...give me a break.
