Topic Dog Boards / Health / SPAYING - when

Hi all.

We have a 10week old SBT, Cassie.   She has been to the vets twice.  1st for a general puppy MOT, 2nd for her 1st injection.

On both occasions, we saw two different vets (although from same clinic).  We asked both about spaying, and when should it be done.  1st said BEFORE her first season, 2nd said AFTER her first season, but before her second.

Anybody have any thoughts on this, when ??

Darren

If you want her to mature properly in body and mind then let her reach puberty (have a season).  Imagine how a girls maturity would be affected if she had a hysterectomy at 10 years of age?

Hi Darren,

Brainless is bang on (again :P )  I'm guessing the first vet was the one responsible for the accounts!!!!

Regards, Teri :)

Spaying-wise, I would go by what the second vet said - midway between her first and second seasons.

Thats the thing about vets,it depends on who you speak to, as what advice you are given !
