she's nearly 10 months old now.i want her to have her own litter.can i just go and find a stud dog here and contact them?or there is other things i need to do.And i was told that female retriever need to do the eye test and hip score to be qualified to have a litter?Last question is,how much will each breeding cost with a male dog?

Lots of Thanks

Well before the lions pounce I suggest that you go through this web site with a fine tooth comb and absorb as much information as you can on the breed.  Then carry out each single health test which is required and if that all pays off then you can look for a stud dog heres the addy because I still can't do links :D  http://www.goldenretrievers.co.uk/mclubs/southern/

Hi! I'm assuming she's KC registered and there are no endorsements on her registration?

You're right, she'll need to be hip-scored (that's done after she's 12 months old) and eye-tested (both tests will need to be successfully passed, of course!). Ideally you'll have her scored for elbow dysplacia too. You should also have her assessed by an unbiased (we all think our own dogs are the best!) person who's knowledgeable about the breed - usually the easiest way to do that is to show her a few times. If she does well you'll know she's good enough to breed from. It's worth remembering that only about 10% of pedigree dogs are suitable for breeding.

It's at shows that you'll see which dogs are likely to be suitable studs for her. They will also have good hip-scores and clear eye certificates. It's generally considered unethical to breed from goldens before they're two years old.

Don't forget at 10 months she is still a baby and has lots of growing up to do yet, don't let her miss out on puppyhood.
