I always advice contacting one of the bred club secretaries to find out what is the normal selling price range for a puppy from a reputable breeder.

My sister just bought an excellent quality pedigree pup for £500.  £1200 sounds a bit steep for a pet - unless, that is, it's a high quality, show and breeding prospect pup - those you shoudl expect to pay top money for.  My sister's - Monkey :) - is pet quality.

I cannot understand why a prospect should be higher priced. My pups and every one else in teh breed all pups are same price, as no one can be surte if a prospect will pan out,a nd after all they are all just as worthy companions.  I would expect to pay less for a puppy that had some fault that might mean it would entail the new owner with additional expwense, but otherwise they are all valued the same.

I've just seen a litter of shelties for sale, 4 of them are £450 but the show quality one is £750!!! Isn't it a bit risky if the pup doesn't turn out to be show quality when its a bit older?
