In 4 weeks time we will be at a show where I have entered Ellie and Summer in Brace, also I have entered Tia, Summer and Ellie in Team, and named my training club, (got told never to show my face again if I muck up) :D think they were joking :D.   NOW.... can someone please tell me what I need to do, I have never seen a team of three, only Brace....I do have the option to withdraw ;)
- By Moonmaiden Date 21.02.05 22:21 UTC
LOLOLOLOL try it with 3 beardies all trying to get into obedience heelwork position ;)

Smallest on the outside then the next higgest then the next biggest if they have any height differences & pray
- By kayc [gb] Date 21.02.05 22:30 UTC
Oh dear, Little ellie on the outside might be a bit of a problem unless I can get her out of this clingyness thing she is in at the moment.
- By Moonmaiden Date 21.02.05 23:38 UTC
I had two male Beardies & one female & they all wanted to be next to me, fortunately I ahd a month to work on it & we started off with the inner two(the boys)with another handler with the bitch(& never was a name so deserved but thats another story)on lead on their right so they were in the right position & she was prevented from getting between me & the boys by the other handler They did eventually get it LOL& then s*ds law we were the only ones entered so everyone watched Never tried it again but I regularly do the brace class with the cavalier boys wihich is another laugh trying to get them to wag unison :D

Ok so I have 4 weeks to get them sorted (pulling hair out smillie) :D  What type of leads do I use, show slips, trainings slips (shorter) or are they are brace linked?  something tells me I have made a big big booboo doing this.   Pray you said, are you sure thats enough :D :D :D
- By Moonmaiden Date 21.02.05 23:59 UTC
I used three leads & I show my brace on two leads They are the same ones I show them on nothing special, I do adjust the amount of lead to try to keep them together Have thought of using some velcro strips lololololol
- By kayc [gb] Date 22.02.05 00:04 UTC
I wonder if you can get black superglue lolol. Thanks MM,
- By kayc [gb] Date 22.02.05 00:11 UTC
OK, well if anyone wants a laugh, we will be at Newton Aycliffe on Sunday 20th March, no hecklers please :D :D
- By gwen [gb] Date 22.02.05 09:03 UTC
Goo luck KayC.  If I remember correctly from last year show, most peopel in the Team class showed with 1 handler per dog, so you could always co-opt an extra couple of people.  Was thinking of entering hte pugs in Brace, so may see you in the ring!
bye
Gwen
- By kayc [gb] Date 22.02.05 10:00 UTC
OMG FIVE !!!!!Will pass on that, lol.

Gwen I though team had to be shown by just one person, same as brace.  Co-opting sounds good, but I think they will work better together,  BUUUT, was that an offer just in case lol :D :D

Well, I had a little trial run this morning and they seem to be 'not too bad'. Summer and Tia quite happy with their places, but little Ellie cant understand why I wont let her on the inside. But they are quite funny, I have never really noticed before. Tia is very ellegant and has good gait but a very long stride, poor Summer and Ellie are still at the 'Dumpy' stage.  Ah Well 26days and counting :D :D

Oh and see you there Gwen, looking forward to it :)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.02.05 10:32 UTC
Gwen Brace and Team classes are with one handler, it is the Breeders stakes classes that it is one handler per dog.
- By Christine Date 22.02.05 10:42 UTC
Agree with mickb, its the manipulating the leads thats the trick, once you get the knack you`re away! Takes some practice tho  :D
I used to enter the brace lots & loved it, good luck :D

The lead is the hard part & using a couplong link doesn't help if you have dogs that are of different sizes & pace length I prefer to have separate leads Had to laugh once lost to a brace of pugs handled by two old biddies & yes one was fawn & the other black & it was at a Champ Show under a well respected all rounder I was giggling so hard I nearly missed being placed second  :D :O
- By kayc [gb] Date 22.02.05 11:26 UTC
Hi MM, I went along with your suggestion and just used their normal show leads. I managed to get the lead twinned through each of my fingers so I could just 'tweak' them :D . Tia is tall (borderline standard height) and very elegant.  Tia and Summer, although 7 weeks age difference are roughly the same height, Ellie just being slightly smaller, so their placings could all change over the next couple of weeks. this would be quite good as I think Ellie would settle better being in the middle. Ellie and Tia trot very well together, Summer just tries to edge in front a little. So from my point of view it would be easier if Ellie overtook Summer heightwise as I am finding it easier to 'tweak' the outer and inner leads, the middle is a little more difficult :)

<<<<<one was fawn & the other black >>>>>>> It would be so much easier if I could add Emma to the team, she keeps them all under control :D  but she is yellow, I dont want to go down that road, the only thing I have in my favour at the moment is simply that they are all black :D :D
- By Moonmaiden Date 22.02.05 11:40 UTC
LOL sadly the all rounder is no longer with us otherwise you would have been ok showig under him lolololololol :D

Don't forget to get a photo of the dogs & you as well I never got any photos of my lot together as I did all the photography & they are with the ex partner(dog owning partner that is not my OH )& when the partnership ended she kept all thedog stuff
- By kayc [gb] Date 22.02.05 11:51 UTC
Yep, I do hope to get photos, I was going to phone the guy in Newcastle who took Tia & summers photos at carlisle a couple of weeks ago. The photos came last week and I am really pleased with them. If not, will have to take camera and find a volunteer photographer  lol :D .  My efforts with a camera leave a lot to be desired ;) :D

Hi Brainless,

Think the terminology "Team" is being misleading here.  Was present at this show last year, and have the current schedule, this is a Team class for registered club members.  Almost all those competing last year were shown by teams of 3 handlers :).   There is a seperate section of the entry form for this "Special Team " class.  It allows for up to 3 dogs per club team and  each can be in seperate ownership.  However, if my memory serves me, at least one entrant last year did show a team all by herself.
bye
Gwen
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.02.05 19:13 UTC
Ah not the usual team class then :D

Interestingly enough when htye first brought in the breeders stakes there was nothing that said that each dog needed a seperate handler.  A certain person who writes for the dog press and owns our breed wanted to see if anyone would try and handle several dogs themselves.  So at Bath I think I exasperated Andrew Brace by showing two dogs with another person handling the other two :D

Needless to say we didn't win, and I noticed that the secodn year it did say one dog per hndler :D

You can get self adhesive Velcro tape in black LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

"Her indoors" - Terry once showed 5 (YES FIVE!!!) Siberians at a club champ show in "Team", won the class and got a round of applause from the audience (No-one else had more than three). The trick seems to be in the ability to manipulate the leads like a puppeteer using only one hand so that you can, somehow, exert just enough pressure on individual dog's leads when you need to control them. I think it helps if you've been a horse-rider. Personally, brace is quite hard enough for me (I lied - one dog is hard enough for me! VBG) Good Luck!
- By Alli [gb] Date 22.02.05 23:35 UTC
I can see where the horse riding would come in useful, when I walk my girls together I hold 2 of my leads like I would the riens of a double bridle, which means I just have to move a certain finger to exert just enough pressure for the dog I want to get the message.

- By kayc [gb] Date 22.02.05 23:54 UTC
Yes it has come in handy, I am finding it quite easy to manipulate the two outer leads, the middle one is a little more tricky, but have had a couple of practices today, and I seem to be getting the hang of the middle one. So far so good, got control of the leads, now just have to take control of the dogs lol :D :D
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.02.05 23:59 UTC
My problem has always gbeen that the younger dog always wnats to play and hang of the ears of the older one once we get moving at a decent speed :D

Mind you I did win the Brace Group at Birmingham National last year with mother and daughter when pup was at her first Champ show.
- By kayc [gb] Date 23.02.05 00:11 UTC
Mmmmmm, running before learning to walk has suddenly sprung to mind lolol :D
- By Dawn-R Date 23.02.05 13:27 UTC
Hi Kay, is the show Newton Aycliffe by any chance? If it is, I'm with Gwen on this one. As I understand it, the team class is to represent the training club, not the breeder of the team, so a variety of breeds in different ownerships can compete, and the winner is the training club not the team, if you see what I mean.

Dawn R.
- By kayc [gb] Date 23.02.05 13:34 UTC
Hi Dawn, yes it is Newton Aycliffe, And it is my training club that I am representing, but I am the only one from the club going, so it is my 3 that will be in the ring. I thought that I would need to handle them myself. But, this is now sounding better :D. So, I can take my 3 in the ring with two handlers?
- By gwen [gb] Date 23.02.05 20:27 UTC
Hi agian,  There is nothgin at all in the schedule about how many handlers you need, so I guess you can take them in with 1, 2 or 3 handlers.  See you on the day, hopefully.

bye
Gwen
- By kayc [gb] Date 23.02.05 22:16 UTC
Problem is Gwen, I dont have any handlers :D so I will have to handle all 3 together
