Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Different breeds of pups from one house

Hi I just wondered, if there are different breeds of pups for sale but from a residential house in the middle of suburbia should I be suspicious? I wanted to buy one of the pups but am a little anxious given different things you read etc.

I'd be suspicious - it's difficult enough to find the time to deal with one litter at a time. Either it's bad management (mistake litter!) or it sounds like someone's breeding for money or, worse, buying pups in for resale. I'd go elsewhere for a puppy - check with the relevant breed club for reputable breeders.

Most people concentrate on one, or maybe two, breeds, and don't generally have more than one litter at a time. How many breeds, and which ones, are involved here? It could be perfectly genuine.

I have seen a few breeders on here that have more than one breed, i am sure you would be able to tell with the way the dogs are looked after.

Hi Guest

I have two different breeds and live in a built up area. Like the others have said I would probably be slightly suspicious as it is enough work rasing one litter at at time never mind 2 or even 3. If you are unsure about this breeder look elsewhere for a puppy. You might have to wait a wee while but in the long run it will be worth it to know the puppy you buy will have been raised with all the love and appropriate care and attention a young puppy needs.

It could just be pure bad luck that two girls of different breeds come into season at the same time, and there COULD be a genuine reason for two litters at the same time - however, if the breeder had more than two litters, or breeds available, you wouldn't see me leaving the premises for dust!

Ask lots and lots AND LOTS of questions - and if you're still not confident - walk away!

When we got our sheltie the breeder only bred shelies but had a couple of litters around the same time, Leo was 11 weeks and she had one bitch who had one pup about a week before and one bitch started having her pups as we got there

HI Guest,

I would contact the relevant breed club(s) for the breed you are after. They may be able to tell you if the person is genuine or not.
