I have recently become the owner of an adult chocolate lab bitch and am delighted. I have heard that choc labs may suffer more than other colours regarding skin conditions, particularly sunburn(!); that they tend to be more excitable than yellow and black labs; that they have longer jowls than other labs and hence more prone to snoring(!?)  I find all these statements hard to believe...can you please advise if you have experience of any of these or if they are all "old wive's tales"?

Chocolate labradors seem to be later maturing than the other colours, and certainly some that I've seen have coats that get very faded in the summer.

Why do I get the idea this is a wind up?

Chocolates hair colour does tend to go lighter in the sun but as for sun burn not as far as I am aware or again skin conditions. As all hair is lightened by the sun not at all surprising ;)

As for snoring alot Labs have a tendancy to snore again not at all colour specific.

The longer snout maybe an american influence as my first Lab Mars was half american and she had a longer nose as has Min her daughter :)

John ignore the posters who are trying to question you. We all have our knowledge and experience and you are one of the most knowledgable on Labs that I and many others will vouch for ;)

well i have a 10 month old chocolate lab male and he doesnt snore and he is adoreable. he is very responsive and learns very quickly and just wants to please he is very dark and didnt go any lighter last summer. i hate people slagging off chocolates not that i am saying any of you are but max is far better trained than a lot of my friends dogs as i have put the time and effort in and he responded superbly
