The protein level may be too high and is passing through - resulting in a high protein level poo! Try feeding a lower level of protein.......
thanks for the reply i ment to say there on a low protein food not a high,it's only the one that does it i clean it up as soon as theve done it but if i cant get to it in time hes eat it and im worried just incase he gets ill from doing this

He won't get ill unless the dog whose poo he's eating is unwell or hasn't been wormed regularly. It may be that he's seen you cleaning up, and decided to do the job for you - dogs don't think the same way we do ;) If you're concerned about his health - it might be worth getting him checked over by a vet as rarely a dog will suffer from a lack of desirable bacteria in the gut and seek to redress this balance by eating a very rich source - another dogs poo.....
thank you once again for replying,he only eats his own never any other dogs and hes never eaten his brothers, they are wormed every month,i will get in touch with the vet this week and see what he can recommend thank you once again i will let you know what he says regards jen
We have a 4 mth old Beagle and she also eats her own poo, i have tried pineapple in her food for a week and then rabbit food for an other week, not quite sure if they would of worked if i used them longer, cause i ended up at the vet and got tablets (Deturrum)think thats how spelt, i have to give them for two weeks, so we'll see how it goes no change as of yet (3 days later). They are cheap at about 9p per tab. Good Luck!!!

There are so many different reasons *why* dogs do this, that to solve it you have to determine the *why* - it can be anything from copying the dam, to poor house training practise (rubbing the dogs nose in it, scolding it for produciing the poo, so the dog attemtps to destroy the 'evidence'), a dietary imbalance (the high protein levels - this often leads to dogs eating 'cat litter cookies' for example), a lack of dietary enzymes (which is why pineapply is often suggested as a 'cure' - I believe the Deterum tablets also contain a source of enzymes......)
I think that some dogs do this for no particular reason, other than they enjoy it !
One of my dogs has done it since he was a puppy and, eight years later, he would still do it if we didn't clear up quickly. It means we have to keep an eye on him when he's mooching about in the garden but we've just got used to it really.
I suppose they all have their little quirks.. it's just that some are less appealing than others... :)
Our dog sometimes attempts to roll in poo!!!!

Our Cairn ate his poo when he was young, he did grow out of the habit. I don't think he'll ever grow out of the habit of rolling in poo though! Lovely.............
