Just wondering if anyone has ever witnessed any really strange logic when buying pets? What i mean is i went to Pets at Home to buy a goldfish and really got the third degree about tanks, water gravel etc go home and leave the water for at least 24hrs etc which i was really pleased by......then getting nearer the till i saw 2 young women who wanted a rabbit, they sort of randomly picked out out turned to the member of staff and said ok what do i need now? where do they sleep? what do they eat? and the member of staff just ran off and got everything for them.
How can the same shop have such high standards for fish but not seem to care about the other animals in the shop?

I should think it probably boils down to individual assistants. Some are keen and knowledgable, and willing to pass on their standards, while others are only in the job for the money, no standards at all. A bit like dog breeders then ehh.

Rabbits are classed as vermin ;)
No seriously maybe having fish etc is more of a hobby than owning a rabbit? There is more likely better sales margins in the accessories that go with fish so the extra sales push maybe ?

I just pray it wasnt related to the price difference between buying a tank, accessories etc compared to catering for a rabbit, that would be very sad :(
When you buy fish if they die within so many days you can go back to pets at home and they will test your water, if all is fine and know this may sound awful but they will refund, so i imagine all the questions are to make sure all the conditions are right for the fish so they don't die straight away, hence them losing money, just a guess.

i hate pets at home for animals. for food it's fine. as well as our 2 dogs 1 mongrel 12years old 1 staffy 17 weeks,i also have 2 orange winged amazon parrots+ 2 black capped conures. i find it disscusting the prices they charge for there parrots. in ours in stockport they have 2 green cheek conures. they are priced at 400pounds each. i got one from a top breeder 95pound.how can they justify 305pound more. but they give you some bullshit excuse that they have been tested for everything.ahh well it takes allsorrts i suposse. good job they don't sell s/b/t there they would charge about 1000 pound a pup.
As Dawn says, I think its down to be staff. We've bought fish from there a couple of times (was quite suprised coz both times the fish survived!) and the first time we were given the 3rd degree by a very nice guy, asked us what sort of fish were in there how long we'd had the tank setup, how big it was etc, but the 2nd time weren't asked anything at all! So I think it does depend on the member of staff.

The fish there aren't badly priced, plus there really isn't anywhere else near us to buy fish from, apart from peter barratts garden centre. I have to say the staff are our local pets at home are lovely, and if we go without our dog they always ask where he is.
