Suzieque I hope you see this, for I am astonished that you saw this 2 1/2 year old message in the first place, then placed your reponse, which has prompted lovelylady's response which, though it was not a description of Jim's behavior, is spot on the answer regarding Phillip chewing her leg. Canine Obsessive Disorder is definitely what Phillip has.
Oh yes, with some dogs and definitely with cats, shine a light on the wall or floor and it is a hoot the way they react! Lots of fun play with them that way. :) From carefully reading the descriptions of not only Jim, but of other people's pets' behavior written here, neither their behavior nor the human beings visions match that.
The groomers and the vet are aware of what cocker spaniel mix Jim's coat could become, examined him themselves, and had no explanation for that moustache. It's a hoot.
Again, thank you lovelylady for your suggestion of Canine Obsessive Disorder, for though it does not apply to Jim's specific behavior on that one day - the only time he's done that - it most definitely is the answer regardinging Phillip's chewing her leg. When I did the search on Canine Obsessive Disorder, one of the first vet sites that popped up described precisely Phillip's behavior to a tee. Almost as if the vet was describing Phillip herself. I am ever so grateful for that knowledge.
