Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / 15 Month old boxer has never been inheat

Hello everyone i have a question. We have a 15 month old female boxer who has never come into heat. Is that normal? What is the normal age for boxers? I contacted the breeder who said her mother was 10 months old. When i asked the vet they said up to 18 months old. Just thought i would ask here because a lot of very good information is posted here. Thank you

Most will come in between 8-12 months, but it is not at all unusual for it to be later.

A friend's boxer was over 2 when she had her first season.  He mated her (in case it was another 2 years before she had another) and she had 9 puppies.  Her sister had her first season at 8 months.

I wonder if i would take her to my sisters house when her female comes in heat and put her with my sisters dog if that would help? I have heard that if you have a female in heat it could bring your other females in heat too. Is that true? Or do i sound crazy?

no it's not crazy for some reason having other ovalating bitches around does trigger some bitches into season themselves. works in humans too! It's a nightmare in our house of four females all suffering pmt at the same time!

Hi, putting her with an in-season might work, but usually only if she was within a month or so of coming in anyway.  My 2 bitches live and sleep together and only once have their seasons coincided in 3 years!  That time one of the bitches had gone 14 months between seasons and the other one had gone 6 months.

It works with my girls normally, that's how we ended up with 2 litters before christmas 4 days apart, both girls weren't due at the same time either.......one ended up 10 weeks late, then the other came in 5 weeks early.  I'm now waiting for two more of my girls to come in season, they've only ever had one each BOTH in May last year!

Edit: repeat post

Although my dog isn't a boxer, she was about 16 months old when she had her first season.  Now she is over 3 years old and she has had only 1 each year - I am quite pleased about that!
