Holly's puppies were finally born during the night, all safe and sound.  She had three little girls, two gold and one chocolate and tan.  They are so beautiful!  The first was born in our bed! No probs, she did it all herself and didn't make a murmur, dealt with the chords herself and ate all the afterbirths immediately and with gusto!  She is very attentive to the pups and the vet says they are all fine. We knew it would be a small litter, but we are delighted with our pups and are keeping one.  It is all so exciting and emotional!  Thanks to all who gave me advice during the pregnancy.

Thanks for your good wishes! For those of you who have kept a puppy from their own litter, does the mum usually maintain her status over the pup even as it grows? I ask because someone said that two bitches may be competitive and argue, but that if one is mum that should help.  Also how long do you think mum and pups will need more or less constant vigil, including nights?  I am rather nervous she may squash one because she does seem a bit fidgety, just when they all look settled mum gets up and turns round and then they have to start getting sorted again!!

My Rosie had a litter 10 weeks ago, plus a previous litter nearly 4 years ago, we've kept a pup from both litters, the 4 year old likes to think she's boss but Rosie lets her know she is No. 1 in the pecking order!  Lily the pup we've kept from this litter also knows her place............but saying that, they get on great, no problems at all even during the PMT times!!
