I have been on the kennel club website looking at registered puppies and I noticed that the person who bred Abby has registered another litter that will be 3 litters in 1 1/2 yrs, She has been told about all the problems Abby has and that the vet has said one of their dog will have these problems also she isnt interested. Why has the kennel club registered three litters and is there anything I can do to stop this woman breeding from this bitch(she owns bitch and OH owns'perfect stud') she has had 30 puppies in 1 1/2 yrs.

Can you draw the attention of your breed club to her activities?   I would also point this out to the kennel club - but I don't know what they can/will do.

It's such a shame - I have a friend, who thought that the fact that the "breeder" from whom she bought her chocolate lab had bred over 1,000 puppies in 5 different breeds showed that she knew what she was doing :(

Will the breed club be able to do anything? I will also phone kennel club tomorrow. It makes me really angry that this woman is just using her bitch to make money and that people who dont know enough will be taken in by her and keep buying these puppies like I did(if I knew then what I now knw I would have run a mile). Poor baby a life of having litter after litter is no life.

As long as the bitch has not already had 6 litters and she is over a year old and under 8 then the Kennel Club wioll register the litters.  If she is a member of a breed club (which I doubt) then they might be able to discipline ehr, but at least they will know of her activities and hopefully steer people away from ehr when looking for pups.

The fact is that anyone can breed dogs, and no-one in law cares if they arte good or bad examples, though private action can be taken under the sale of goods act that the sick ones are not of merchantable quality, but any such actions don't deter the volume producers, as they cah afford to pay off the odd disgruntled customer,a dn sometimes perfectly good breeders get caught out instead for natures tricks, rather than an avoidable problem.

After me telling her about Abby then the problems that later puppies have are avoidable. Lady I work with told me I can ask for a refund and claim all money back that I have had to spend out for Abbys treatment from the breeder but I am not interested in the money I would never part with my baby I just want to stop this happening to other people.

I understand how you feel, but when it comes to someone who's apparently as uncaring as this, unless you have written proof that you told her of the problem then it's just your word against hers. :(

As far as the KC is concerned, If they are prepared to register 10 litters from just one person in one quarter then I guess 3 litters in 1.5 years is small fry! Sad when you think about it but providing the breeder stays within the very few rules the KC has then they will register just about anything. Their statement printed in the gazette a few years ago, "We are not in the business of policing breeders." says it all.
