Topic Dog Boards / General / My Boxer fought off attackers!!!!
- By Boxer Owner [gb] Date 17.02.05 23:54 UTC
After finishing a late shift last week as I always do I took my Cassy out for a walk in our local park. She is the most placid Boxer I have ever known and I am constantly being told this by people we meet.

This particular evening as we walked around the park I realise I was being followed by 2 youths. I began to hurry and take different paths turning back on myself yet they still followed. I gave cassy a whistle to see where she was but she never came.
I became nervous as i was in the middle of a very big park with no one eters or so and I started to run. The youths also started to run. Then, almost as soon as I started running, Cassy came bounding out of the darkness to confront the youths. She was going wild barking and growling at them. She has NEVER been this way before.I called for her to come but she would not. I walked closer towards them (stupid, I know, but I was not leaving Cassy) and noticed 1 of the youths was carrying a steal bar. He began swinging it at Cassy and this is when I began to verbally attack them. Cassy just would not back down and after 2 or 3 minutes (seemed a lot longer at the time) the two youths ran off into the park.

It was not until I got home and told my wife what had happen when I realised what she had done for me! I am so very proud of her and wanted to post this story and hopfully here more of the same from other members.

Thanks for reading.

Michael.

Thank goodness you had Cassy with you.
Boxers are one of the 'guarding' breeds, although normally associated for being a
great family dog their 'guarding instincts' aren't normally called for in day
to day life. Normally being associated as the clown of the canine world people forget
that they are a good family protector.
On the continent they are used for Police work and have also been used in the German Army
in the second world war.

I hope you do report this incident to the Police though, as if those two thugs are patrolling parks
late at night to attack some poor unsuspecting member of the public they need to be stopped.
As their next victims may not be so lucky to have a brave dog protecting them from harm.

Perhaps you should send your story to the Boxer Quarterly magazine as I'm sure they'd print your
story of Cassy's bravery. Who knows what about local/national press - it would make a change to
see a pro-dog story in print!

Kind Regards
Kirstine

Well done to your Boxer!

A friend who has a very well trained and gentle Dobe bitch was surprised at her ferocity when confronted by a man with a piece of wood who threatened her, as the dog went into full protection mode!

Well done to Cassy - what a hero!!  And I'm glad that you are safe :D

I agree with Shadowboxer - make sure that you report this to the police as these young thugs may strike again and it maybe that they get lucky next time :-(

I also think it would make a good story in the press - a positive story about dogs for a change :-)

Wow! Well done Cassy!

It's surprising how affectionate and gentle boxers are but that they can still pull out a performance like that.

how positive will the press make it tho :|  i think they wud probably turn it around and say 'vicious pitbull attacks youths in park'

Hi sorry to hear of your experience and well done to Cassy i hope you gave her a nice treat when you both got home and had a large brandy yourself, I would contact your local police station just to report the incident and give them as much details as possible regards these two yobs. Next time they are in the park it might be some female who meets up with them. glad you are both ok, i have boxers and know how they can be very protective.

They could hardly accuse it of being a pitbull when it is clearly a boxer we are talking about and as it didn't actually attack they can hardly say that either.

This was clearly a "boxer" protecting its owner from threat of attack from youths carrying a metal bar.

Glazby is also protective of me when we are out.  He's happy to bound about like a loony but if he sees anyone approaching me then he's straight back to me, superglued to my side, ears pricked and alert until we have passed them.  It gives me a sense of security when I'm walking him alone late at night when my OH is on a late shift.

Wow, well done Cassey. Just goes to show all these people who want to train their dogs as guard dogs that there is really no need - dogs seem to know instinctively when their people are under threat!

You've got a real treasure there, Michael, you must be so proud of her (and grateful too, I'm sure :))

sorry didnt mean it to sound like that wasnt what happened.  Just saying, knowing the press they would turn it all around on ur lovely breed.

Hi all.

thanks for all your concern! I am doing fine but i wish i could say the same for Cassy. The day after i wrote this post i took her for a walk in the same park of the insident (in day light this time). While running after her favourite ball she cut her foot on some glass (i asume it was glass) and has had to have stiches.

Some reward for a hero! I now feel so guilty as she can't run around as she loves to!.

Hope she gets well soon!!!!!!!!!

Michael:-)
