Ok I know that I should eat 5 portions of fruit and veg per day and stay away from junk food. Does that mean that I do this every day - NO. In fact I enjoy junk food. Why should dog food be any different? When I think of it and am organised they have fresh veg and bones, when I dont they have table scraps and a good quality 'kibble'.

BTW I have been talking to DEFRA about the legislation and they are of the opinion that meat and veg used does nto have to be 'fit for human consumption'. This is just something that members of the petfood manufacturers association have signed up to. Althought they did point out that it would be very difficult to come up with a legal definition of the term 'fit for human consumption'!

Mine eg tnice healthy meals every day...but get their 'naughty' treats in between :d

I have been trying to point out the above for a long time but no-one seems to believe me :(

My guys get their junk food treats everyday,some are healthy,others  are not so :o I cant go a day without having some sort of junk food fix,neither can my dogs :D They ofcourse get their healthy meals for breakie and dinner,but "a little" of the good stuff doesnt hurt.

The point is that the petfood manufacturers have signed up to it, whether or not it's the law!

For the UK DEFRA is a more reputable source of information than US websites ... (no offence intended)

Yes J/G but as I keep saying, foodstuffs etc are imported into the EU from all over the world, USA included & the UK is part of EU.

The link I posted a couple of days ago clearly stated that not only were growth hormone implants in cattle banned throughout the EU, although permitted in the US, imports of beef from such cattle were also banned from entering the UK.

Sorry but the point for me is that if there is no legal definition of 'fit for human consumption it does not necessarily mean anything. However I believe in trying to make my life as simple as possible and since my dogs think that horse shit is a good balanced diet, I try not to worry too much!
