can anyone explain to me whats involved in a hip score test? i think it's an xray not sure though.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 15.02.05 21:29 UTC
Yes, it's an x-ray involving a general anaesthetic.

You own Vet takes the X=ray and charges you for teh plates and the Anasthetic and you pay a fee to the British Veterinary Association whose panel of experts score the plates.  In my area they charged me £57 ofr the plates, the saem for the anasthetic and some £25 for the BVA fee.  This was in 2001.

Am having my nearly 18 month old done next week.  Keep fingers crossed for a good result.  Mum is 7/7, Dad is 3/3, and her litter brother scored 4/5.

How old do they have to be to be hip scored? Ive got a rottweiler he's 7 months old, would he have to stay in over nite?

They have to be at least 12 months old, and no, you'd get him home the same day.

I would wait untill he was fully growen up and out!  they only have to go in while they are under.  If you have a problem dog where he doesn't like being left or is nervous the vets might let you hang around in the waiting room.  With our nervous bitch my mum was with her till she was under, and was with her again when she awoke and we took her home.
