Apart from all the people on here who actually show and breed their dogs and have a number of dogs, of the people who have the dogs purely as pets only, how many dogs do people own?
- By archer [gb] Date 15.02.05 20:41 UTC
Why do you not want to hear from people who show? I have 4 dogs....they are all pets.At weekends they occasionally 'double' as show dogs but are PETS everyday regardless!!!!

We have 6 pet dogs.... we have shown 5 of them and one of them has had a litter.

First and foremost they are pets and much-loved members of our family - if you like, they are pets with hobbies of their own :D

Nice one!! I agree with you wholehearted,  I have 4, show 2 who love it, 1 does agility and knows when it's her night out for training and sits by the door waiting she loves it, the other will start soon.  But they are all our pets and we love them to bits.

I have five dogs and they are pets 365 days a year, and the ones being shown will be showdogs no more than 20 days a year.  I don't show more than two at a time, so the two oldest have been retired and the three others take turns going to shows.

I know many non show people who have more dogs than me, but I think the amount of multidog houesholds is growing as many peoplelike them to have company.

I have 4 dogs, they are my wonderful PETS 99% of the time the other 1% of the time they occassionally go to shows.  Well the youngest one has been to about 6 and he's 2 at the end of this month and I'll soon be showing my joint owned 6 year old :d

I have four all pets that we love to bits. only one now is showing due to retire this year, and a puppy who i will start to campaign in march.

My 4 are my best friends and I totally love them all.  3 do double as show dogs but only when they feel like it :)

Perhaps the original poster had the same view as a lot of a public that all show dogs are kept in kennels and are only bought out for shows.  One of mine didnt believe mine were 'real' show dogs because they lived in the house and I am convinced she never believed me until she saw us exhibiting at Crufts :)

all six are pet first then show or working it depends on me  and my oh if we WANT TO SHOW THEM  OR WORK THEM.in our time.
after losting two dog close to gether two years ago all the rosellet and card and cup they won over the year do not mean a thing with out them.
all my 6 live indoor too at the end of the i bet 90% of people that show or work their dogs in some way it a hobbie to the owners, and fun for the dogs,if the owner where not do this hobbie they would be do another one like golf, gym ect,

Quite agree Briedog - We also have 6 dogs - we show some and do agility, obedience and PAT dog work with the others. All ours also live in the house and are our pets (well in fact they are more like members of our family :D). Our dogs enjoy the interaction that 'working' with us brings whether it's showing or agility etc and I think that most show folk also think of their dogs as pets first and show dogs 2nd. In fact I can think of more fat , unfit 'pet' only dogs than show ones ;)

I have 4 dogs and do whatever they enjoy - showing, working trials, agility obedience - I spend more time out doing different things with different dogs than I do at home (much to my husbnds pleasure!)

Each dog enjoys a different activity - Anya Loves to prance round the ring and be admired by those who look upon her, it gives her a buzz - where as one of my others wouldn't entertain such sedate activity and prefers working trials or agility.

I wouldn't go back to having just one dog - its too lonely not only for my dogs but for me too.

They are my babies and my friends (that sounds sad!)  I enjoy doing things with them.
