HI!
I have a 9 week old cross puppy (lab/staffie and whippet) and she is good most of the time, however at around 7pm for about an hour and a half she has what i call a 'mad turn' running round and throwing herself into things, round and round, biting and throwing her toys around, is she mad or is it normal for a puppy to have a bit of an energy spurt if she isnt old enought to go out for walks yet?

Hiya!!
I've got a 3 year old Boxer and he still has his mad half-hour everyday!! Generally consists of tearing up and down the stairs at top speed and then throwing himself headfirst at one of the leather armchairs and then falling down, twisting onto his back and doing some pretty impressive backstroke carpet swimming whilst making the most amount of noise by snorting and chugging at the same time!!
He'll then tend to stop very suddenly and look around to make sure that he has got an audience watching him!!
I think its perfectly normal behaviour - certainly makes us chuckle and he loves nothing more than having a captive audience for his madness!! :D

Same here, our Labrador is 4 months old he has his mad half an hour at around 7.00 too. He also likes an audience and if your not watching he will make sure you notice him - either by hanging off your clothes or eating your best shoes.
If your dog has a regular time slot for his mad half hour when she is old enough make that her walkie time - our dogs mad half hours were worse when he was too young to walK.
Have fun!

HI Thanks everyone
You have made me feel a bit better, I am slightly paranoid as a few years ago we had a jack russell puppy who had to be put down beofre he was a year old as he went mad (due to inbreeding we think) so i'm just being sure, her behaviour sounds exactly like you have all described, thanks again!

very normal, our staff does it for about 20 minutes every night just before bedtime, she throws herself around the upstairs and has wrestling matches with my Husband. Its almost like they know its time for bed and decide 'lets have a last play cos we wont get one till the morning'
She is now 11 months old!
I think it carries on throughout their life with staffs! The 'wall of death' is a specialty in my house - can be a bit dodgy when 3 of them start :) 8)

All mine ahve mad moments like this especially when puppies. Though my 13 year old still does it though a bit slower. As I ahve a multifog househols it usually ends up in a big wrestling match, whcih fortunately never gets out of hand as over the years they have learnt that I will call time out if it gets too roudy.
