Well I've been waiting since about 2.30pm but have now watched the videos for some of the terriers being shown a Westminster today Westminster :)

They are now stacking  Charlies !!!(King Charles or English Toy Spaniels) & the trend for stringing up in movement is awful Edited to add Why are all the pictures of the dogs move inverted & green ???

They even string up flatcoats in the States.   I suppose you can hide a bad gait in a dog like that, which is probably why they do it.    Unfortunately being copied by some over here.

Any idea when the results of day two will be put up. I am looking for the Belgian Terv results.

Hi they are five hours behind us and they hope to get the results up within 2 hours of the judging finishing so basically add approximately 7 hours on to the red start times given on the page and you should have a reasonable time to start looking HTH

Finally watched the cavaliers which thank goodness were all shown free standing but shown slightly strung up

As thse are all champions I was surpsied to see one refuse to stand & looked terrified

Why are they moved so fast no wonder they all flew their tails ?

Have now looked at the results of the Belgian Tervs but can some one tell me please, are only champdogs shown at this show? I thought dogs that had got somewhere in other shows could enter to get their champ status. Or does this only apply to uk shows?

I don't know about qualifying, but I know there's only a certain number of entries allowed, and it's 'First Come, First Served'. The 'closing date for entries' is whenever all the places are taken.

Thanks Jeangenie for your reply. Must now try and get hold of my daughter and see if she got in.

They only take the first 2500, roughly, dogs.  But I'm curious....I'm not familiar with the term "stringing up".   What does that mean?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 16.02.05 21:53 UTC
It means having the show-collar (usually a fine slip) up high behind the ears and the lead held tightly vertical. A skilled handler can have the lead vertical but loose - not many people seem to be that skilled, and hold the dog's head unnaturally high.

Westminster is not like Crufts, where you qualify throughout the year (apart from dogs with CCs, stud book nos. etc who are permenantly qualified) at Westminster there are a certain number of invitees (the top dogs in their breeds) and then the remeaing ( as JG said about 2500) are entries from Champions only.  Most people seem to enter by fax, and from entries opening to being full  is very quick indeed, ususally within an hour, I think.

However, Westminster week is not just about the show "at the Garden" breed clubs have back to back shows in NY (and soem in Nwe ersey too) making is several days of showing.  With my breed for instance, American Cockers, there were 3 days of "back to back" shows over last weekend in New Jersey.
bye
Gwen
