Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Open Show Critiques
- By boxerlolly [gb] Date 16.02.05 13:01 UTC
Hi,

I have been showing my girl for just over a year now and we have done lots of open shows and got lots of firsts but so far we have only had one critique. I buy DogWorld but could it be that the critiques are coming up in OurDogs and I am missing them?

Thanks,
Jen

A judge is usually given a prepaid envelope for Both Ours Dogs and Dogs world, on arrival at the show, if you give me the name of the show and breed, I can check for you.

Ok so anything in OurDogs is likely to be in DogWorld too? My girl is Killellan Honky Tonk Woman (Boxer). She should have critiques for quite a few shows, the ones I remember offhand are Catrine, Garnock, Drongan & Paisley. If you could have a check for them it would be fantastic :)

Thanks,
Jen

Hi,
Have checked them all for you, I only found 1 out of the list from Catrine 29.2.04. Will PM you with the critique.

Thanks a lot charm! This is really annoying though. Does anyone buy both of the papers? I expect it would work out to be pretty expensive?

Thanks again,
Jen

My girls critique appeared in Our Dogs (which I don't get) and not in Dog World (which I do) , luckily I have a friend who gets OD :)

This is one of my personal bug bears with opens.  My youngest girl got a BP and a utility group one and not one mention from either judge appeared.  I would say you are most likely to get them from some of the proffessional judges that are out to add the breed to their CC CV.  It doesnt seem to matter whether they are breed judges or not they just sometimes cant be bothered which is I personally find exceptionally rude when I have taken the time and trouble to travel to a show for a opinion on my dog and they cant be bothered to spend 10 minutes writing up a critique and putting it in the post.  Moan over but it does get me on my soapbox!

This hits a really raw spot with me - with Crufts last year!!!!   I still have not seen the critique for Australian Shepherds - and as Beau god 2nd in Puppy (or special yearling - you see, it's so long ago!!) - we have NEVER EVER seen the critiques - I know that back in September or so, we were promised that they would be published..... but I'm still waiting......

Our own moment of glory - and not to see it in print :(

Hi Margot the critique for the Aussies at Crufts last year was eventually published but I'm sorry I can't tell you when exactly.

Oh thanks - I must have missed it... but will try & find it through back issues!!

Boo hoo!!!!

It's not in Our Dogs - and I can't seem to find the critiques in the on-line version of Dog World - if anyone has any suggestions as to whom I should apply for a copy, I would be soo grateful!

Dalmatians never got their critique either.  Everyone has complained but he has not done it.  What annoys me is he made everyone stand there why he wrote it up!  Stand them in a line and shoot them thats what I say. Oh god I'm off again :)

I thought the championship show critiques for my breed show had not been put online in Our Dogs, but then having emailed them they told me they put breed champ shows under the open show heading.... wonder why?
As open show judges go, I have won quite bit with Arty but so far have had one critique for the open shows and the breed Championship show only. So know how you feel. I have offered to put any flatcoat open show critiques on pedigree dogs site as I write a bit for that from time to time. Perhaps we should have a critique file here?
When I judge I always write a critique, however I have found that the papers are not so good at printing them! So much so I now always post a copy, fax a copy and email a copy. Even then I have had one of the papers tell me they had not received my critique, however when I pointed out that I posted a copy, faxed a copy and emailed a copy, they suddenly managed to find it! Our Dogs has never missed printing one of my critiques I do have to say.

Thanks Roxanne - I'll email both of them!  Yes - it was special junior (couldn't think without checking it up properly)

I have never seen the crit yet for Border Union last year when my Mia won her 3rd CC!  :(
- By thomas-the-spot [gb] Date 17.02.05 07:19 UTC
That must be really upsetting Christine.  Border Union the year before last the judge never did our critique either.  He is judging again this year but I am not sure whether to go as I got a first but am not sure whether I was just the best of a bad bunch or he genuinely liked her.  On our own breed forum we are lucky enough to have all champ show critiques put on and also if the open show judges email those in they go on as well.

I think a new rule was brought in this year that made writing critiques compulsary, not sure if it applies to Open shows as well as Champ shows though, wish it did! I also get annoyed when a judge makes you stand there while they write the critique and then it doesn't get published, what do they do, throw it in the bin??!
- By gwen [gb] Date 17.02.05 10:26 UTC
I see this from both sides.  Started showing Mildred at LKA when she was 6 months, she has done verey well at both her Ch shows, and at apen shows has won BPIB (and some BOBs too) plus lots of group placings and wins.  Only twice has she not won, and woudl you bellieve these are the onlly critiques which havea ppeared.  However, I judged a Gundog show in late December, sent off my cirtiques in the new year, and they have still not appeared!mn  So sometimes it is not the judge, it is the papers.  (or the postal service!)
bye

You should try having a dog on the Import Register, they very rarely get critiques, from open shows or Champ shows, at one point Fosse Data didnt even bother to put them on their champ show on-line show reports, its very unfair we all pay our money and some judges and papers just cant be bothered, as its only an import, well when youve been hanging around at an Open show all day because Import have to be last dont they !!!!!!!!(WHY)at some open shows there may only be 5 or 6 dogs entered, its hardly gonna take up any time at all so why cant we be earlier, and then you dont even get a critique    and at a certain champagne show where all BOB winners, (except Import) get a bottle of champagne, after youve been there from 10am til getting in the ring at 4.45pm because they couldnt tell you when Import would be in the ring, sorry rant over it just makes me so mad !!!!!!!

I was very surprised when we showed under a judge at open show to recieve a judges report in the post.
I phoned and thanked him.
He told me he posted it because he always sends them to the papers and they dont always put them in.
This judge also stayed to watch best in show and was very pleased to see my boy go best in show.
