my girl is now on day 59 and her temperature keeps going up and down, in the past i've always used the temperature as a guide to when they will whelp but this wee girl just won't stick to the rules has anyone else had this experience.with her mother & grandmother they whelped 24hrs after drop in their temperature.

Yes I am having the very same dilema at the moment. My girl is 63 days from first mating, 59 from last and her temp for the last week has been up and down like a yoyo.

It is normal for the bitches temp to go up/down all the time in the later stages of pregnancy. When you see a "significant" drop - that's when you will see the onset of labour within 24hours. ;)
thankyou, the little madam has me a nervous wreck. her mother was a text book bitch with no problems but this is her first litter and she is going to turn me grey before it's over

I spoke to my vet earlier about this when I took her for a check up today and he is happy for her to go to day 65 from last mating. Wish your friend good luck. Fingers and paws crossed it will be tonight for her :-)
has she started nesting,my dogs eat right up to first stage of the labour but one dog i had caught me out she was in the first stage so i stayed up all night with her then it all stopped in the morning went ou t in to the garden to get a breath of fresh air and as soon as i turned my back on her she had her first pup. so i would'nt leave her for long.

My bitch had a litter 5 days ago,i took her temp in the morning,it was down, so thought this it! i took it later it was normal again, she was very settled all afternoon, no scratching up no panting at all, she had them that night! without any warning. ;-)
chingi, did she stop eating before my girl is still eating but getting fussy got to hand feed her

She didnt eat as much as usual ,but she did still eat. it was all very quick she came to bed with us usual, no signs of whelping, i had been in bed about 15 mins and i heard her licking so i put the light on to see what was happening and there was a puppy already there!! i hadnt even heard her straining!! so back out of bed and no sleep for us that night! she started at 11.30 pm and finished at 5.30am the following morning. so keep a close eye on her!!
I've already got her sleeping in my bed(hubby pushed out again)with the whelping box at the ready i just hope she'll hold on for a couple of more days till nearer her due day (which is friday). the poor thing is starting to look like barrel i think the vet has got it wrong with his count,he say's he can see 2 but going by her size and the weight gain i think i might get a wee surprise.
just to let everyone know that my wee girl took us by surprise her temperature took a significant drop the night of my last thread and yesterday she had three big puppies unfortunately it was a section, but she wouldnt have been able to keep going herself the puppies are double my normal birth weights. The vet said if was a bigger litter she would have did it herself but she is home now and nursing away with her new babies.
i would just like to thank everyone who gave advice, it's very much appreciated
Congratulations, no wonder she was so big, get some sleep !

Congratulations Marydoll :D We are still waiting, had signigicant temp drop since early this morning so fingers crossed we won't be too long now!
Chapelrose, hope everything goes well keep in touch and let us know. I'm at the zombie stage not been to bed since early hours of tuesday morning because i like to be near mum and puppies for the first 36 hrs. Mum is doing great getting her appetite back but have to lift her out the whelping box to get her to do her business.
good luck and hopefully your in the same shattered state that i am!(but i love it,just seeing these puppies develop after 18 mths of planning and hopefully a wee minor puppy to bring out in 6 mths.)

Looong story but emergency c section at lunch time. 4 girls and 3 boys. Mum and babes doing fine :-) Thank you for asking Marydoll :-)

Congratulations! My girl had a c-section just before christmas, within 24 hours she was back to normal as though she hadn't had any surgery what so ever.
Good luck with the pups and well done!
congratulations, give mum a big hug! had a busy few days so not had time to send my good wishies. hope your girl is recovering from her section? i'm the same as sharon you would'nt think that she had surgery all the puppies are gaining weight and for a first time mum she is doing great.
