We have a 8 / 9 week old female Staff. She seems to be very responsive, she learning to "come" and toliet in the garden.
HOWEVER, there will be times she is left alone in her "pen" and eventually free rome of the house. Is it a good idea to train her to go outside (as she seems to be grasping this concept), and then when she has mastered this, train her where to go in the house if she can't get outside, OR "re-start" and train her to go on "paper/matt" and then outsdoors , or will she get confused !?!?!?!?!

Hi,
Just been through all this with our Labrador Puppy 15 weeks. We started with the puppy pads in the house because we were also worried about were he would go if we were out. In my experience don't bother with it! He just thought it was ok to go in the house - didn't reallt grasp that he could only go on the pads..it just confuses them. I would say to keep getting Cassie to go outside it's great that she is already doing this. She will have the odd accident that is only to be expected. Ralph still does now but the difference is he KNOWS he shouldn't and goes straight outside to 'finish off'. When they are older they will go outside all the time due to this early training. They only have accidents because they can't hold it in very long as their bladders are immature.
Keep up the good work..it's hard but you seem to be doing a good job.

thanks, nice to have some reassurace. She does have the odd accident, but its probably our fault for not realising when she wants to go.
As soon as she is put (or follows us) outside, she goes, both 1 and 2 !!! YEAH !! We are so proud ! lol
Problem is, the little accidents inside happen, but our carpet is red, orange and black (NOT OURS - IT WILL BE CHANGED SOON!!) so you cant always find the wet spot without feeling for it...which isnt to nice.but at least its warm eh !!!!
when we had our Staff we taught her to go to the toilet outside only . She is now 11 months and occasionally has been left on her own for three or four hours at a time. She has had only the occasional accident since about 5-6 months and goes straight thru the night. I think if you are only leaving yours for that short amount of time and occasionally only you would be better teaching her to go outside. They learn very quickly and are eager to please so learning new words and tasks with them is a pleasure
