Hi All,

Had cassie a few days, she is beinga little devil pup, but we forgive her.  She already understands her food noise (little bell we ring at dinner times - has her running like mad!) , toliet (to an extent), and loves cuddles etc.

But at only 8 weeks old she hasnt had ANY injections yet.   She is due her first next week (week 9), then 2nd at 12 weeks.  People have said Cassie shouldnt interact with other animals until she has had her injections, which makes sense, but is this a DEFINATE !?!?!   Im very interested to get Cassie mixing with other dogs ASAP, My sister has a westie, and is dying to introduce them........................comments??

If your sister dog is vaccinated and healthy I don't see any problem, my puppies have joined older dogs at home for the last 20 years without misshap.

Hi,

We were in a similar situation with our Labrador puppy Ralph, who is now 16 weeks old. We were given the option to take him home before his injections but decided against it because we were told: He would then have to be in our house a week before he could have his injections. He could not mix with any other animals because they can bring in parvo on their feet even if the animals had been injected themselves. This put us off bringing him home early because we have a cat who likes to do his buisiness in our garden and were terrified if our pup caught anything from it and it was our first pup so we were nervous anyway.

Have fun with your new baby Cassie... ours is four times the size he was when we brought him home already.

It's usually thought that it is more important for the pup to be socialising with other dogs, than the risk of catching something :) Obviously, the pup shouldn't be walked in open spaces where other dogs (which could be infected) are walked. My pup was taken to 'watch' our older dog's training and agility classes from the moment we got her and other people with pups there are encouraged to do the same :)
