Hi, We are fostering a adult 1yrd old rescue dog and a litter of 8week old pups all looking for homes (not related) and have been noticing over the last few days that all seem to be having drops of blood in their poo's. Moreso in the adult dog. Does anyone know what can be causing this and is it serious. We are going to go the vet tomorrow but was wondering if anyone could put my mind at ease before.

They are all healthy in themselves otherwise- eating, drinking, playing normally and have all been wormed recently.

Searching on the internet i couldnt find anything about this

Thanks, Dawnx

Look under Gastro Enteritis/Colitis etc.
Are their poos 'normal' and hard or is it diarrheoa?

If diarrheoa look under gastro enteritis and possibly Colitis.
The wormer *may* have stripped them out and caused it.
But to be honest Vet is best.

we used the worming liquid from the vets for the pup's last week which treats them for round worm. The pos vary in the pup sometimes hard other times soft. However when we find the blood it is always on the soft poo's.

Will have a look now for the Gastro Enteritis/Colitis thanks

Hi my dog had the same symtoms as you are discribing so i took him to the vet and they asked for a stool sample the results were that he had clostridia bacteria and he was treated with metronidazol tablets, i also had to keep him on a chicken & rice for a while and so far there has not been anymore blood in his poo's. Apparently this bacteria is quite common and can be found in soils and other places. Hope your dog and pups are ok.

Hi the rescue lady we are fostering the dogs for is going to contact the vets today. All the pups will prob need to be treated as we are not 100% which ones have it and which dont. We have four 7wks old pups, one 14wk old pup and also an adult 1yr male which we will need to get sorted b4 they are rehomed. I am glad it isnt any thing life threatening as we were starting to panic yesterday..

Thanks for all yor advice. Will let you know the vets verdict!

Dawnxx
