Hello, I am looking for a decent pedigree software so I can put all of my dogs peds on etc. I have used breed mate before but it was a very old version.
I would like one where they do an a3 pedigree for 5 generations although this is not extremely important. What do all you guys use and where would I be able to get it from, also how much money am I looking at paying for it?
I did just do my own 5 gen peds on the computer for my last litter, but I feel it would look more professional and neater if I used a proper breeding software, also I would be able to keep all records of my own dogs peds on the computer
Thanks in advance for any replies

To me there is only one worth having and thats the new Breedmate Pedigree Explorer. I know it's not the cheapest but to me it's far and away the best. Of course, it has the advantage that it will convert your old files to the new format!

Thanks John, Ive just done a search and came to the breedmate website.
Ive stumbled across just a little problem lol. It gives the prices but as far as I can see they are just in us dollars, can anyone shine a light on this for me lol.
In other words how much is the software in sterling???
There are 2 versions of what I can see which are the best....there is just the breedmate and then there is the bpedigree explorer, can someone tell me what the difference is between the 2 of them
Thanks again

Hi Amy, I use Breeders Assistant from Tenset, this will do up to a 6gen ped. It also works as a database, and at the moment I have around 800 dogs listed onto mine. I have also used this for trial matings, deciding which of 3 particular dogs would be best suited gentically to one of my bitches. It also gives the line-breeding % quotient etc. It can be downloaded from website of for extra £20.00 will be sent on CD ROM. You can download the trial version, (everything printed has TRIAL VERSION) splattered over it, but it does give you a comprehesive idea of what it entails. Cost is around £120.00 plus extras.

thanks kayc Ill go have a look at that one now:)
Ok Ive converted what seems to be the price and it says it will cost $80 which in sterling is only £42.82....surely that isnt right lol.
Sorry if Im sounding dumb lol.....I just dont get all this currency stuff and I know fine well that the software will be more than that
A very confused Amy

The exchange rate today is 1.87 dollars in the pound so $80 is £42.79 plus whatever they charge to exchange stirling into dollars. I often buy books from America using my credit card and the fee is never very much.

Breedmate Explorer allows you to too and print a "Pedigree Chart", A family tree of all ancestors. The one for anna takes up 64 A4 pages although the real beauty is being able to see and trace all the ancestors of your dog on the screen. If you dont need that function, and that depends on how big your database is, then get the cheaper virsion. Of course it can still print out the 10 generation pedigree as in the older version.

so would you say that the £42 sounds about right then? I thought the breedmate wouldve been a lot more expensive than that

Think Ill go for the pedigree explorer then.
Is that what you paid for yours John??

About that. This is a later version, 5.4 mine is only 5.1. Don't forget it is a download, so save it to a folder then save it to disk after it's finished downloading for safety sake. Also it does not include the user manual but the file is included so you can soon print it off. Disk and manual is an extra $30 and being a cheapskate I wouldn't pay! ;)
I don't think you will regret paying the extra for Pedigree Explorer.
