Can a female dog abort only some of her puppies  and the  other puppies live?
- By SharonM Date 13.02.05 08:47 UTC
I have heard people say that just 'some' of the pups can be aborted, but personal experience once my girl started she lost the whole litter :-(

A bitch can certainly re-absorb just some of a litter.  For instance, my bitch showed 3 pups, very clearly seen together, on her scan.  At whelping, only 1 remained.

YOU guys are so great, i never expected an answer so I did not go into detail, just the basics,
Shes a 4 year old bloodhound, she we showing  her rounded pot belly real good for a few weeeks,  someone is always with her ecept when she goes potty, and we noticed no difference in her attidude , but all of a sudden her belly is almost flat, we can here a puppy heart beat , or maybe its just wshful thinking, I just wanted to know if ther was ever a case where the female aborted only some or most of her litter and still have a litter?

Also, If you know of a fish Forum as great as this one please please send me the info.. I have had NO luck at all with finding one..
Thank you so much
Cin

I very much doubt that you would hear a pups heartbeat.  Very often the pups do go up into the ribcage and they can look as though they're not pregnant, is your girls ribcage quite rounded?  If you're worried at all you can always take her to the vets.  how far on is she?

http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/ one of the best fish forums on the net :D

If you want to hear puppies heartbeats then you will need a stethoscope, the heartbeats sound like ticking watches
there's a site with info on hearing the heartbeats here http://www.debbiejensen.com/signs_of_pregnant.html I've used a stethoscope and it was fairly accurate (for my dogs anyway ;) )
