I don't know if any of you saw the story in yesterday's Daily Mail about a lady who was murdered whilst walking her dog near a canal.
I knew this person, not very well, but we used to meet up with her and her husband every so often for dog walks a few years back. The account given in the paper says that she was attacked because her dog (a lovely Wheaten Terrier) barked at the attacker and tried to bite him. The way it was written implies that the dog was the main cause of her being murdered. Remembering the dog as I do, I cannot for one minute imagine that she would have instigated any kind of aggression, it is far more likely that she was bravely trying to protect her mistress.
I keep thinking how distressed her husband and family will be at the implication that their beloved dog may have triggered this tragic event. I'm sure it will just add to their devastation. Very sad.
Thats totally disgusting. There may have been precipating factors but it wasnt the dog who murdered the owner it was the human.
Sorry to hear this.

how awful! the dog obvisly had sensed he was a total lunatic! poor dog just trying to warn, how sad. sorry about your friend joyce.

Unless they were present at the crime, how does the newspaper know what 'happened' regarding the dog barking at or biting the murderer, that's what I would like to know! It is all supposition surely and can cause a lot of misunderstanding in cases such as this.
I think we all need to be vigilant when we are out and about, sadly that is the world we now live in.
Jacqueline :)
Exactly, Jacqueline. The attack happened in a very quiet area and as far as I know only there were only 3 witnesses - one is dead, the other is the dog and the third is the murderer.
I think it's very insensitive of the newsaper to jump to conclusions in such circumstances. Hopefully more details will emerge when the trial takes place.

That's terrible, Joyce. Even if the dog
was threatening the person, that's no reason to kill the owner. How wicked.

The paper have now handed the murderer a good defence when he is caught and tried. Although he would probably have said that anyway.
How terrible, i had heard of this on another forum but didn't realise a person was actually killed, i just thought they were attacked and had lived :(
I suspect the dog immediately alerted to the murderer being a "baddie" and if it did bark, that was why. How absolutely terrible, what is the world coming to?

guess their gearing up for a defence! pathetic
Hi Lindsay. The lady was in intensive care for 10 days and sadly died on Tuesday.
So awful for her family who no doubt were expecting her back at her usual time.
Bless her, and them.

thats sick! Dogs are such good judges of character he was no doubt trying to warn her.....at least i doubt a dog barking or snapping at someone isnt really a good defence for murder and i would hope any sensible jury would see that too

flicking throught the diffrent topics i saw this one
i was shocked as i had not heard about this at all
i must admit i dont really buy a paper
but how awful!!!!!!!!!
that poor woman and her family like you say what is the world coming to
i agree with the saying of the fact if the dog does'nt trust a person then there is a valid reason
my saying is and has always been
if my dog dont trust you!! sorry then i dont
and i have always told my kids the same thing and now they are all grown and families of their own they have adopted my saying and trust their dogs first man last
sorry to hear about the lady
