hi there
My cat blakie (my baby) was killed on the 4th of january, we have a rotty who has grown up in the country and with my cat, however she has caught and killed rabits etc.
I have now got 2 new kittens, which unfortunatly she thinks is fear game, can anyone help me please.
She came into our house about 8 years ago with a fully grown mature cat (blackie)
So as far as rotty's go she is getting on in life, but still thinks she is young.
I am trying the switching of towels etc and keeping them apart for a couple of days, but she knows they are here.
If anyone can help me i would very much appreciate it, as i don't want to have to take the kittens to the pet shop, want to keep them.

Hi, when we brought our first kitten into our home 6 years ago we had to watch very closely for a few weeks as one of the dogs wanted to eat it. Literally, the kittens head was found in the dogs mouth on several occassions. We didn't let them meet unless we were all in the room together in order to stop this from happening. It took a while, but they lived together, sharing beds, until the cat was killed on the road.

We let the dogs into the living room during the day, put them away into the bedroom for an hour, and let the kitten into the room to play. After an hour the kitten was put into the bedroom and the dogs let through for a sniff. After a few days of this the kitten was let through at the same time, but the dogs were ON LEADS just to make sure that everything was going to be ok. After the initial 'mouth' by the bitch (she was the only one who bothered) where she was told off, the kitten was allowed to jump down and play. They were fine.

Constant vigilance is needed in the beginning. Do you have a friend (a STRONG friend ;) ) who can help holding the Rottie back at first?

hi there
thanks for your reply, i am certainly going to keep them separated for a couple of days, putting kittens away and then bringing them out for a play.
my husband will be home tonight so will be able to help me over the weekend, i am hopeing it won't take too long as she grew up with a cat in the house, just have to get the kittens passed the hussy, spitty time, then i think it will be a lot easier, well i am hopeing anyway.
will let you know how i get one.
thanks :)
