Topic Dog Boards / Showing / What are you wearing for Crufts?
- By Dawn-R Date 10.02.05 19:48 UTC
I've just decided what I'm wearing for Crufts. I usually have it all organised months in advance, but for some reason it's almost last minute this year. I'm doing pale blue trousers, white tee shirt, pale blue plaid velour jacket and pale blue flat shoes. The dog is very pale buff (blonde).

Have you spent a fortune on yours?

Hi Dawn,

I usually buy something in the USA, but coudl not go this year, but managed a splendid  deal in the Sales in Newcastle!  So, for showing the Pug I am wearing Red, which is something I dont nomally do at Shows (makes me think Poodles and Junior handlers!)  Anyway it is a silky Edge to Edge Cardigan type top, with a crepe black camisiole under, and black trousers (fawn pug, of coursE)   it goes beautifully with my fab. Pug handbag ;)  Busy looking for the perfect shoes, but have seen a possible pair in Wallis.  Still pondering for American Cocker day, but as I am just viewing it can be a little more extravagent!
bye Gwen

ps yoiu must come and visit Beverley pups - there is a baby Kitty!!!

You've left it late, I dont think so I havent got anything yet and will be going shopping the week before Crufts.I normally like to wear black (nice and slimming) but I cant with black and white dogs so I hate trying to pick showing clothes. Panic is beginning to set in I think

Whats the name of the dog you will be showing at crufts? I will be buying the catalogue and watching the bc's and shelties on sunday, so could look out for you when you're in the ring!

I have  got a  black polo neck short sleeved knitted dress made by M&S.... I am teaming it with black opaque tights and  a pair of carvela black "snakeskin" leather loafers...  I may wear a wool jacket with it, depends on how warm I am on the day. :)
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.03.05 00:17 UTC
We tend to be pretty casual in or breed.  Will just wear Jeans shirt and jacket as per usual. :D
- By Dawn-R Date 05.03.05 15:33 UTC
Really   It's funny isn't it, whats normal attire in one breed is a no no in another.:) I'm in American Cockers, and I suppose partly because of the high presentation required in our breed, our exhibitors are always on the smart side of smart/casual.:)

My outfit this year wouldn't look out of place at a wedding.

Well I'm not handling (thankyou God ;) ).  My pal is trying to persuade me to get matching t-shirts made up to support my boy :D :D

CLOTHES !  As I'm not showing but at Discover Dogs for 3 tiring days not too sure what to wear, knowing me I'll decide the day before each of the days I'm going.

Ok I have yet another Crufts related 'newbie' type question!
what is the most suitable clothing for someone who is only spectating at Crufts (aka me!!!!!)?
When I am handling shelties for my friend I alway dress in a formal manner, but if I am doing only grooming or spectating I usually wear casual clothes if its open shows, and for Ch shows usually a mix of both!!!!! but as Crufts is such a big event what does one wear when only spectating?
I have a few ideas but need help before someone calls the fashion police!!!!!!

When I'm not wearing my suits I'll be in jeans and t-shirt!  and trainers!

Saying that its my friends first time and she has decided to wear a suit (though she also wants to wear her arm band and a ring number to look like a handler (in other words I let her show my dogs in breed and she thinks she's a professional handler!!!) what have I done!!!!!
- By carol_vet Date 09.03.05 16:04 UTC
Ice queen, that is just so funny!!!!!!! :)
thank you both for your advice, I have 2 pairs of very comfy shoes that I am bringing, and as I am not going until saturday maybe I can get a few tips from watching tomorrow on the telly! I am so used to 'living' in scrubs and lab coats that I'm afraid my fashion sense has alot to be desired! Even my pug has more style with his little coats!!!! :)
thank you again!

No rules for spectators' clothes! Wear whatever you're most comfortable in. Some areas get very hot, and there are cold draughts in others ... but comfy shoes are vital!

What would happen if you turned up in the show ring in a pair of trackies and a flannel shirt,or jeans and a tank top,or something?

Does it really make a difference? Would the dog get lower points if the handler turned up looking like a right dag?

I dont show, obviously :D But i've never thought about what the handlers wear, but it's obviously a big deal judging by these posts.

Has anyone got any stories of a dog being *penalised* because of something the owner did or did not wear?
I understand that the handler would want to look smart and well groomed just like their dogs, and that looking daggy would probaly make their dogs look lesser,i guess, and i totally understand handlers wanting to look the best they can on the day,but in the end does what you wear detract from the dog you are showing in the eyes of the judge and does it really matter?

What about normal weekend shows,do you have to dress up for those aswell?

Rose :)

Well, when as at one Champshow, the well-endowed handler of a certain large dog, turned up in a pale pink two-piece sun suit, the judging stopped in the next ring whilst she was putting her dog through his paces, as the Judge was, shall we say, mesmerised by the activity in the other ring, I suppose it does matter :D  :D

The male spectators were quite appreciative - and I'm not sure that it was the dog that took their fancies!

:D :D Lokis mum,you told that story so well, the picture i had in my head of that woman bouncing around the ring brought tears to my eyes :)  Thanks to you both for your replies :)
- By Dawn-R Date 10.03.05 11:35 UTC
Hi Rose, you don't have to dress up, as it were, I just like to.:) I feel that Crufts is my equivelent of a west end premiere, and I wouldn't dream of showing in anything other than a smart outfit. It's just a personal standard that I have. I regard it as my uniform if you like.:)

I'm a nurse, and I work in Endoscopy, and my work uniform consists of those horrible American style scrubs, that I absolutely hate. I would love to wear a 'proper nurses' uniform again. Call me old fashioned.:)

I don't expect the handlers attire would have the slightest impact upon a win or placing in the show ring though. I just want to feel good.

Dawn R.

Edited to add, I don't mean showing in a revealing sort of get up. I mean smart trousers and jackets. Anyway I haven't any cleavage to show.:)
- By carol_vet Date 10.03.05 18:27 UTC
Dawn, I agree 100% about the scrubs! I feel like I'm in like I'm pjs all day!!! :)
