I posted a short while ago regarding a pre mate test i had done, well we waited and at 29 days had Lizzy scanned and it was negative, re scanned in 10 days - negative. oh well she missed.
Over the last couple of weeks she her teats have got bigger and developed , ner nelly is still swolen like in season, she has had a clear discharge from it and the last week or so she has started to fill out. what do you think.......
well off to the vet today, another scan , no she isnt..!! well ok to put your mind at rest we`ll do a blood test.  OH YES SHE BLOOMIN WELL IS!!!!!!! 3 scanns and no one can see she is pregnant , the dog was screaming at me saying she was but when 3 different vets (same practice ) say she isnt you doubt yourself.
Now im worried, I should have increased her food by now , however thinking it was a phantom I didnt she is 7 weeks tomorrow, mind she is blooming, putting her on puppy food and filling her up!
Bloomin vets, bloomin scans, why do we bother. dont think i will next time, ( if there is a next time stress!!)

Don't worry, as long as she was eating good quality food anyway she'll be fine. I don't change my bitches' diets till they're 6 weeks in whelp anyway, and then only cut the carb and increase the protein. She'll probably be more comfortable with more, smaller meals soon, but don't try to 'feed her up' - fat bitches don't make good whelpers.

Oops, edit: forgot to say - congratulations! :o

I wouldn't worry either - doesn't do them any favours if they are overweight & the pups don't harm as it's mother's reserves which are used up first. When I had my "mistake" litter I didn't know the bitch was in whelp until I found her eating the compost heap  at 7.5 weeks. She had a lovely litter of 5 with no trouble at all.

Congratulations.

I actually had my girl scanned as curiousity got the better of me.  I was told it had to be done at 28 days took madam along.  First of all she could see a sac but no heart beat!  Then she saw 3 sacs with heartbeat.  She then decided she only had 3 and then it went up to 8 and in the end she didnt have a clue.  Not quite sure I would bother again as I am no wiser now than I was a couple of days ago.

Got to say I agree with the others I dont increase my bitches food until later.  I find they tend to adjust themselves to what they require but it might be because mine are a bit faddy anyway.

Ps forgot to add she also thought they were small by which time I was nearly in breakdown mode!  Got in contact with the stud dog owner who told me not to worry as  it probably meant she had taken on the second mating.

My friend had her bitch scanned and told no puppies - so they went away taking the vet's word. My friend is an experienced breeder, and it is the first time she opted for a scan. She kept an eye on her bitch as she had a feeling that the bitch was pregnant. At about 7 weeks she decided to bring the bitch back to the vet as she was sure her bitch was pregnant. Well next scan showed 7 and the VET said he could not understand what could have happened. My friend has decided to keep her money next time and go by her own instinct.

By the way 4 healthy puppies arrived!!!

I am not a great fan of having bitches scanned - if they are pregnant they are, and if not then there is nothing you can do about it.  The only time I think it is really useful if you are not sure near the end of a pregnancy when there may only be one pup - you then know that you will probably have to have a caesarian and can plan accordingly.
