Hi
How did you reach the date of 25th March? If you add 7 days onto the 11th it will bring you to 18th March so that could be her due date.
What day in her season was she serviced by the stud dog.
hi val
she was mated on day 10/12/13 jan the vet told me
if she was the 7 feb she would b due the 11 mar
or she held the sperm until the 14 that means 63 days +7 thats the 25 but if not whelp
before the 22 i have to get in touch with them
sorry i ment to say the 7jan she would b the 11 march

Her due date if she took on the 7th should be 11th March, if the 14th due date will be 18th March not the 25th. I can't understand your vet's calculations of her dates.

I don't understand these dates at all either! The last date of mating was 7th Jan, so in theory her latest due date would be 11th March. It's possible for her to conceive later, so if you add on another week (no more than that because the sperm wouldn't survive that long) that takes you to 18th March.
If this is exactly what your vet told you then I would change your Vet, none of those calculations make any sense and if your bitch goes that far over, she and the puppies would be serious danger!!!
A Vet who can't even make correct expected dates is not a good enough Vet in my opinion to rely on in case of an emergency when whelping.

I agree with Lady Dazzle I would definitley change vet. Your bitch and her litter are too important to leave anything to someone who doesn't seem to have a clue what they are doing. I've got one of my girls due in 2 1/2 weeks also a rough collie and I have complete confidence in my vet.
hi
i thought it was odd also thats y i have came for some help
she started her season on the 24 dec, mated her on the 4 jan
then on the 6,7 jan . the first time i took her to my vet i thought she was
about 4 weeks she scanned her then and said she was about 2-3 weeks
so thats y i was back today as i thought she would b 5 weeks but
acording to her my dog is only about 4 weeks as u could c the pups
but every time she tryed to get closer the pup would move ,then she said she was looking for
their heart beats but couldn,t c them to grate because she was on about 4 weeks
in whelp so thats when she told me they dont get many dogs scannrd in there surgery
but was convinced she is only about 4 weeks thats when she told me about her due dates
7 jan=11march 14jan=63days+7 takes her too the 25 march but take her back to the vet if
not gone by the 22 march .how much would you c in a scan at this stage could u please help

I am interested top know what training people who scan have, is there a recognised course? or do people just buy a scanner and set themselves up? I am not talking about vets but independant scanner folk?
amos

Due dates are taken from the date of mating, not conception. Sperm can only survive inside a bitch for about 4/5 days post mating, so the most she could safely go 'overdue' would be a week - that takes her to March 18th.
thnxs to everyone for your help
i will phone up another vet in the morning
to ask for a second app as i dont want anything to
go rong with my bitch or her pups, may i also say that my dog
is a maiden bitch also would i be better asking 4 a xray or
is that not safe as it might do something to her pup are they any site i can c pictures

I wouldn't have her x-rayed could cause her too much stress and that's not good for her, just speak to another vet one who knows what they are doing, is she showing any other symptoms? get The Book of the Bitch it's really helpful and answers a lot of questions you may have. Will her breeder help or the stud dog's owner I find most are willing to give their help in many ways to anyone who asks.
also if she took on her first mating that would b
the 4th jan that would make her due ot the 8 mar
so sha could whelp between the 4./11/18 is that right
as they can come earlyer or later than due date
is this right
thanx
sharon

Yes, if she 'took' from her first mating she'd be due on 8th March. So if your vet says don't get worried till
14 days!!!!

after that ....
<also would i be better asking 4 a xray or is that not safe as it might do something to her pup >
You should NEVER x-ray a pregnant bitch, it can do harm to the foetus that may not become apparent until years after their birth.
If your bitch is scanned as being in whelp, add 63 days to the mating days and wait! If the puppies are not born on or around 63 days from the LAST mating, ask advice from an EXPERIENCED breeder. Many vets only see a pregnant bitch with problems, when it is too late to save the puppies, so they are not best placed to advise on a normal whelping.

You have a vet whom you say doesnt sound sure from a scan, have a read of my last thread,"remember me" then you know what i think os scan`s !!. Id go off your first day of mating then as she goes over you will know what day she took on. At least you will be ready for her..

Its called the Book of the Bitch, by J.M. Evans, Kay White, price £7.00 from Amazon (www.amazon.co.uk) - delivery is normally be return.
Surprising how quickly it becomes bedtime reading!
Margot

I am surprised that you are leaving it so late to get the book, it is a bit like shutting the stable door after the hoirse has bolted. I would consider it required reading for any bitch owner, let alone one contempleting on the responsibility of breeding from one.
I wouoldn't be without it and am onto my second copy as the other had been used so much that it got very tatty. It ofund a good home though with someone who having read it decided breeding wasn't for them.
