Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Another puppy? to keep company?...

Hi All,

I was the one who left a message regarding my little baby barking all night long.  - Thank-you everyone who gave me some great advice, we will be trying all the tips this week.

Anyhow, I have been also spoke to a few people and they have suggested to get another puppy to keep her company. I am not sure if this is the right way to go?

What do you all think?

Thank-you

Hi, No.....definitely not. Even very experienced people struggle with 2.You need to teach your pup that she can function without you and this will take time. Also, you have had no time at all with her yet, training, fun times etc. Another puppy will add to the already hard work that you have now  and they could become more bonded with each other than they will be to you. It's not fair. She deserves your attention. Think of the bad habits that they will pick up from each other :P

If you eventually plan to have another one, because you want 2 dogs, then by all means do, but not for at least 18months/2yrs. ;)

i wouldnt get another pup yet she will settle in.my pup sleeps with my 12 year old border collie yes she doe s keep her company but the older dog is trained another pup will make training that bit harder unless you have time to train each pup seperatley and you could end up with 2 crying pups at night consentrate on the pup you have things will carm down soon. my border collie did cry as a pup but after a few weeks she knew  i would be coming downstairs in the morning to greet her.

To be honest, that would be the quickest way to having two pups with bad habits - they'll each have their own and they'll copy each others! Wait till you've got one trained to the standard you're happy to live with forever before you get another one to concentrate on.

If you're having problems with one you'll have 3 x the problems with 2!!
