I think my dog is allergic to something as does the vet as she gets itchy ears, paws etc
I mentioned a blood test and she didn't think they were worth it but I am interested in getting it done.
Does anyone know what a basic blood test for allergies tests for?

Have a look on york Laboratries (sp) site. Very encouraging with thier allergy tests on animals and my vet has mentioned them to me. They are expensive though, but if you are insured then the insurance may well pay for it.

Have a look at diet and allergy issues. These are the most common causes. Low thyroid might be a cause but not the first thing to spend money on. Food allergies cannot be diagnosed other than by trial and error.
I think its worth it.... My boy had the same problems and tests revealed that he was allergic to several things like house dust, house mites, pollen, he was a very sensitive dog and I had to wash his paws and ears with a special shampoo to relieve his irritation.
You won't get rid of his allergies, but you can control it..
I was lucky that my vet has a specialist that comes in once a month for problems like these bu if I were you I would definately get the test done.
Good luck

I'd try a natural diet for a few months and see if the allergy disappears. Often allergies are food related.
I'll second that...it's likely that there is an imbalance in the gut and you need to get some 'friendly bacteria' into your dog.
