Our 14month boxer is georgous. Red & white.  Many people have commented in how handsome he is!!  This is our first dog and we would love to be able to stud him just the once.  What is the ideal age and how do we go about finding a suitable bitch.  We would just love the opportunity to have one of his family in the future.  Please can you help - we are from Edinburgh in Scotland.
He is from a very reputable breeder in Hamilton.  Many of his family have been entered into Crufts and have done very well.  We have all his paperwork along with his family tree!!

Boxers should he heart tested and hip scored at the least = have you had these done yet?

Hi not meaning to sound rude, but why dont you contact mrs M Hamilton and ask her advice regarding using him, I know she breeds some wonderful boxers and im sure she will kindly give you all the advice you need. Regarding heart tests and suitability and also if he is as nice as you say why dont you join a ring craft class and start showing him. guest plz join CD then you can ask questions on all the boards. good luck with your boy

After you have read the first post in the Breeding forum have a good think about it and consider - would it not be better to obtain a puppy from the same breeder as your boy? It will have the same lines as he does and your dog can remain what he was presumably sold to you as, a pet.  Remember, only 50% of your dog will be in any pup that he sires - and it may not be the 50% that you are wishing to reproduce.

I am pleased that you are reconsidering studding your boy. Who knows - if you contact his breeder you may be very lucky and find that he/she is planning a repeat breeding in the future. That would mean a full brother/sister to your boy! If not that then there may be a half-sibling available sometime in the future.

If you want one of his family then I would suggest that you go back to his breeder for another puppy in about 18 months time.

One off stud use is not a good idea, and the type of breeder that would consider using your dog is unlikely to prodcue the sort of pups you would like.  Producing quality pups requires a great deal of knowledge of the lines in the dogs and bitches lines as well as a good dose of luck.

You will need to get your boy Hip Scored (cost around £150) Heart tested (£?) and really he would need to be shown for owners of good bitches to see him for them to even consider using him.

Have you had him assessed by independant expersts to ascertain if he is of sufficient quality to be used for breeding, the first persons opion to be sought ought to be his breeder, but soem unbioased opinions would be needed in addition.

Also you would be morrally responsible for the life4long welfare of any of the pups he produced, and would you be able to help the bitches owner with rehoming a possibly difficult adolescent or adult dog?
