Can't believe how many massages since I was last here!!!
Just would like to say that Trude is from Norway so thats' where her accent is from!!
I am a vet student in my 3rd year which is the first year of the clinical training.
I watched Vets School and Vets in Practice from the very beginning and can remember Trude on it as a vet student!
My opinion is that Trude did great to get through vet school under a foreign language, and still have no idea how she ever managed to have cameras around her, while already under the intense pressure of seeing practice and hospital rotations!!!!

south african/Pom ?? are you not a pom yourself then

I don't like stepping into these threads, but I will make an exception for this one. Trude came to the UK from Norway to Study for qualifications in Veterinary Surgery. No mean feat in itself, but Trude at that time could hardly string a sentence together in English. I cringed many times when watching her on the original TV Serious many years ago as a young student. I truly admire her courage and stamina, I have watched her in tears many times and she has overcome so much. How many of us could take on a University degree in a lanquage we could not speak. Trude spoke very little English at that time and many of her student collegues were not from the UK and in learning English, many foreign accents would play a large part in Trude's understanding of English. At one point she was about to be sent home from Bristol, but she was a very determined young lady and stuck it out. I simply admire her for guts alone. I was watching her the day she received her degree. Who cares what her accent is.
When she was studying she spoke in English and wrote in English but admitted that she converted into Norwegian in her head before answering, so often came across quite badly. Most of you will have seen Vets in Practice, but have any of you seen the original series many years ago, I must be around 12-15years ago.
Rose, if this is all you have to complain about, lucky you, but why not just keep it to yourself????

Once AGAIN,all i was asking about was where her accent came from, that is ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now that you have explained everything from start to finish, her accent must be a mishmash of "british" and norwegian. Thanks for explaining :) Dont know why it had to take so long.
There are far worse posts than this one circulating around here, why is everyone being so sensitive, are some of you best mates with her or something

This all is really, really weirding me out!!

I think not! You complained that her accent was
{i]almost unbearable to listen to Trude talk? and Her accent grates on my brain
I don't think that I've heard anything so personally intolerant in a long time! :(
If your were to disagree with what she said, then I might agree with you, but the girl can hardly change her Mother tongue and accent overnight when she's studying a new profession having failed her first exams!!
>Dont know why it had to take so long.
Digger told you she was Norwegian in the first reply you got - nearly 2 hours after you posted. ;)
:)

I'm not best mates with Trude, but having met her, I didn't find her accent at all strange! I think unless you know/met her you can't judge her!
Maria is still my vet and it's great to go into the surgery and sometimes see her children who both speak Norwegian and English! I love their accents :-)

Is it just me or is it almost unbearable to listen to Trude talk? Her accent grates on my brain, she sounds half south african/half pom. She's swedish or something,is she not? Her accent doesnt reflect this.
...........er, and that's not negative? Nor does it ask politely what her accent is. :) Alot of the time I respect/support what you say in your posts, I guess I was surprised this came from you. Perhaps it's a case of something reading in a different tone to the authors intent?
Heed your own advice, lighten up yourself ;)
*Is it just me* Yes Rose.... it is just you.
*or is it almost unbearable to listen to Trude talk*
Anybody I find almost unbearable to listen to, or even I don`t want to listen to

I switch them off, it`s so easy to do nowadays with remotes. Hey, you don`t even have to move from your chair, just a press of the button, that way no one gets to grate on your brain ;)
I find your posts agressive & downright rude. Just thought I`d let you know how I felt, much the same as you`ve let me know how Trudes accent grates on your brain :)

No worries christine, you cant please everyone all of the time :)
It seems the only way to get your point accross on this site is to be aggressive
(as you put it) or else the regular posse shouts over you :(
I swear i dont know what it is about this place, but it just seems to breed anamosity and turns usually nice people into monsters(myself included) It is so easy to ark people up here,i never, ever do this on purpose by the way.
I've seen you post the same things over and over on the feeding board only to have it fall on deaf ears, like i've said before i admire your patience, but i just cant bite my tongue when people try and trip you up at every turn or question each and every word you say and try and analyze what you write, for no good reason but to be argumentative?? I just dont get the mindset of the majority of posters here.Either you agree with the loudest voice or if you dont your "rude or "aggressive" and a troll. Take a good look at how many people only post once here and then are scared off,or some of the regulars who have left(tohme i believe) because it is just too hard and not worth the headaches :(
Like i've said before,i have a thick skin,i dont get offended by ANYTHING and i say what i think.I have tried the nicey nice, sugarcoated, provide links to every thing i say approach, but it makes no difference,The difference between you and me is,you say things in a nice, patient way,i might say the same thing in a more direct fashion, you will get a thank-you and seeya later,i will get of your so rude, seeyalater, the end results being the same.
Have a look at some of the rude remarks directed at trude underneath mine which were a direct attack at her,why didnt these (longtermers) get blasted?? Can you figure it out?
Every now and then a post comes up that is of great interest to me,this is the hook that keeps reeling me back here(i know there's gonna be a post coming up saying "well why do you bother coming here??),aswell as the almost constant streams of arguments and debates that always manage to give me a giggle! I am absolutely gobsmacked that this post has caused such an uproar,it was meant as a lighthearted post, some people are acting like i attacked their mothers!
There are posts popping up all the time about things, people, judges etc. that peeve people off,why am i copping it for this one????
Christine now why would i press mute on the remote control, then i would miss the whole show! That comment doesnt make any sense.
Maybe i or someone should start a new post on our pet peeves, where we ALL can be brutally honest(IMO the best way) without fear of being ATTACKED or BERATED. What do you think????
I find your posts rude, no other word for it. Thats said not to offend you, it`s said how I feel your posts are.
You should try considering other peoples feelings, no one likes being talked down to & thats how I see your posts come across. *Empty vesels make most noise* is a phrase that springs to mind when I read them.
*now why would i press mute on the remote control, then i would miss the whole show! That comment doesnt make any sense.*
You wouldn`t have to put up with her accent, which annoys you....makes a lot of sense to me.
Christine, Spain.

Thanks for your opinions :)
I make alot of noise because i am so passionate about nutrition inparticular!
I try not to start my posts talking down to anyone, not that i mean to do it,but if someone challenges me then i'll have a go back.
Anyway it's too late to change back now, everyones made their minds up about me ;)
I started off patient and tried to be helpful, but when that doesnt work you try a different tactic. Some people just arent interested in anyone elses points of view, and i cant ignore things when they bother me or someone challenges me,i wish i could just turn my back and switch off,but i just cant!

I find it strange (and a little worrying) that a teacher should express, publicly, such irritation at an accent!
I'm hoping that you don't teach in a school where my g/c attend!

I seperate my work from my personal life,eg this site. All day long i have to be patient and understanding because i deal with little children who have to treated as such, you lot are not children who have to be dealt with, with care and fairytail stories,i dont expect y'all want to be treated like that,or do you?I'm starting to wonder.
So much for being able to let your hair down and relax a little when you come on here, some members are wound up so tight and take every little thing to heart, someones going to have to explode soon.I unravelled along time a go,try it and let it GO :)
So her accent bugs me,there are many things that probaly bug you that dont bother me,but i would NEVER have the gall or to ridicule any of you for your pet peeves as petty as they may seem to me,we are all different and have different thresh-holds to things.I have alot of intestinal fortitude and i will stand up for things i believe in,i would never shame anyone because of their personal thoughts, which is what you all are doing.
Good on ya's hope you feel better and bigger for it :D

It is really odd how, as soon as someone dosagrees with something someone (anyone) has said, they become part of *The regular posse*
:)
Rose, you expressed an opinion ...you asked others for theirs (towhit: Is it just me?), they have given their opinion and now you are accusing people of being part of a gang, members being uptight etc etc
Accept that NOT everyone will agree with you and that some members will express their opinion differently to the way that you do

Rose, you may not have realised it, but some of the posters on here ARE children!

Trude the sensible girl? That'll be the one who didn't advise the GSD who had the singleton pup by unplanned ceasearian that they would be unwise to breed her again...... The same one who was going to take a teeny weeny puppy home as an surprise present for her mother (sadly the pup died from parvo before it could get all the way to Norway.....)
Has she gone back? tell me yes PLEASE!!
Not that the above bothers me one bit,but are these comments o.k?? Just trying to work out the group dynamics,it can all get a little confusing.

The other posters may not cop it as it's your thread. It's just two sides of the debate/argument. When people reply to you disagreeing with your point, I'm confident they are far from siding with people who agree with you. In fact it was pretty even in the posts for awhile there on Trude VS the forum :D

We all make mistakes and learn by them, can you honestly say, hand on heart that you've NEVER made a mistake at work? If the cameras were on you all the time I'm sure we would see mistakes being made!
Poor Trude, what has she done to deserve all this :-( If she was about to save one of your animals life would her voice still grate your brain?

i would never shame anyone because of their personal thoughts
But you will ridicule someone for the accent that they have grown up with?? Not my sort of values - I'm afraid I'll agree to disagree with you on that one.
And maybe some personal thought should be kept just that - personal.

Well - I've never thought about her accent - I was just confused when I read the first message because I thought it said "Half South African, half porn !" Time for new lenses I think !!.

Boy this has gone way over the top. Some British accents get on my nerves sometimes, my own included not that I'd call anyone for it. Can we change the subject now and get back to happier times ?
