Well, the start of this year I decided to apply for another job. I love my present one but the hours are becoming a chore last weeks were not unusual 52 hours. I am contracted for 39.
Plus stress/annoyance is starting to creep in as new people some in on higher pay and less knowledge. One person who started last week with NO experience yet I now learn earns more than me after my 20 years service!

I work at BQ as a Assistant Manager the deadlines, and targets, rules and regs I can take. I enjoy actually.

Then as well there are the very very rude members of the public (I have been spat at, hit with rolled up umberellas, sworn at, once had my earing pulled from my lobe) and thats just normal customers :) . (I love solving problems, turning unhappy people into happy ones)  :D

With shoplifters I have had (my nose broken, split lips, bruises, and a few kicks.) In an armed robbery almost 5 years ago I was stabbed (14 stitches) and during the same robbery coshed (hey thats life)  

Well although I have considered it for a while the start of this year I applied for a job (won't say what other than in NHS - not retail) the pay is reasonable/good (better than lots of people would earn full time) and the hours are the ICING ON THE CAKE they are 56 hours over 4 weeks. 2 nights a week and once every 4 weeks 1 night and 1 day.  Only drawback is they are Friday/Sat nights and or Sunday evening (it covers weekends) But hey I get my week free and up till 11.00pm Fri and Nothing after 11.00pmn Sundays

The plus side means I will have hours to walk the dogs and just chill out,  I am going to hopefully go P/Time at BQ (retain my service) and maybe take up a college course or two or train for something.

The first interview I learned Friday I have passed there were apparently 540 people applied 200 interviewed and we were told only 8-10 would be called back 2nd and hopefuly the final interview is Wed AT 12.40PM.
With an interview board of 3;  Manager, Personnel, and Biomedical Scientist.

The job you were in souns dreadful. I think it's time you had a break from people who can be really horrible and nasty. I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you get sorted out with a new job very soon.

Oh No don't get me wrong Alli - that is a condensed history of 20 years. The majority of the time I  love my job I really do - wouldn't have stayed otherwise. :D

And people seem to be getting ruder everywhere don't you think - compensation culture if firmly in place. 

Yes I do think people are becoming ruder as a whole. But you wouldn't expect to be treated like that in any job. You should have been paid danger money :D I really feel for those who work in hospitals, schools and the like as violence against them has almost become part of their everyday working life.

You  may be right but you can't let the few bed ones spoil the whole bunch.

Generally I have found most people/public/customers are nice pleasant and paitent - like you and I. And I've also found that either smiling/apologing/explaining/telling the truth, goes a hell of a lot futher than pretending customers are not there. Or ignoring them. Treat them as you;d wish to be treated and you won't go far wrong.

good luck and hope you get your job. I work for the nhs in a hospital and it is the best job I have had. Ok the pay is not that great but so easy going. You will really notice the difference after working in retail. Fingers crossed that you get it.
