Is it just me or is it almost unbearable to listen to Trude talk? Her accent grates on my brain, she sounds half south african/half pom. She's swedish or something,is she not? Her accent doesnt reflect this.
- By digger [gb] Date 04.02.05 11:57 UTC
I think she's Norweigan - maybe she was taught English by a South African?  I don't mind listening to the accent, it's the things she actually says that grate on me.........
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 04.02.05 17:03 UTC
I can't say anything :d  I'm sure she's Swedish, isn't she ???  Oops, I think that the other poster is correct at her being Norwegian wasn't the surgery that she opened with her friend called the Viking or something?
- By carol_vet Date 04.02.05 17:17 UTC
Trude is from Norway
- By Dawn B [gb] Date 04.02.05 18:57 UTC
Has she gone back?  tell me yes PLEASE!!
Dawn.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 04.02.05 19:50 UTC
Trude's better than some of the others that were in Vet's in Practice.  I think she listens to people's opinions more than a certain other female from that series seemed too.  Oooh, I wonder if any of those sexy brothers got married I'm still single and looking for a nice man :d
- By Moonmaiden Date 04.02.05 19:52 UTC
There's a scrummy unmarried Spanish Vet at our local practice & no he doesn't come from Barcelona LOLOL Not a half bad vet either ;) want the phone number :D
- By Dawn B [gb] Date 04.02.05 20:06 UTC
Say no more Perrodeagua, ;-)  I think I know who you mean!  :D
Dawn.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 04.02.05 20:12 UTC
Is it that obvious !!  That Joe doesn't know how lucky his escape was and he seemed like such a nice lad :d

Regarding the Spanish vet, don't know, though there was a cute one at mine some time ago but I think that he was involved.  If he's single and likes Spanish Water Dogs you know where I am :d  I'm not a bad looking 33 year old you know, I definitely scrub up well, don't I Terri, Jenny, come on support me in this, I need a man :d
- By Moonmaiden Date 04.02.05 20:13 UTC
LOL I mention it next time I'm there LOLOLOL ;) There was a really good looking Australian vet there for a year sadly he went back to Aus with one of the vet nurses !
- By ChristineW Date 05.02.05 12:53 UTC
The Leonard brothers are all slowly marrying off...but Steve is 'reserved' for me (He doesn't know it yet - but he is!).
- By michelled [gb] Date 05.02.05 13:05 UTC
wanna fight for him??????
- By ChristineW Date 05.02.05 15:22 UTC
Yep!!!!!!
- By Daisy [gb] Date 04.02.05 20:13 UTC
I'm not sure what triggered this rather unpleasant, personal comment ???

- By jackyjat [gb] Date 04.02.05 20:46 UTC
Where's Sharon M, she goes to Viking Vets and will know ALL there is to know I am sure!
- By Moonmaiden Date 04.02.05 20:49 UTC
I did like the partner who seemed a very capable vet never had any trouble with injections ;)
- By Isabel Date 05.02.05 00:52 UTC
She was still a student then and with cameras on her :) She always seem a decent sort to me, infact it seems that the publicity overtook and to some extent interferred with her career, I think maybe she is being mistaken for Emma Milne who has had a lot to say for herself ;) As for her accent, as someone who has never mastered another language let alone studied something as demanding as a veterinary course in my non-native tongue I wouldn't dream of commenting :)
- By Moonmaiden Date 05.02.05 00:59 UTC
This was after she was a student & was in practice not the kitten incident but a dog,
- By jackyjat [gb] Date 05.02.05 07:43 UTC
Well sais Isabel.  If we had to train as a vet in Sweden, the last thing I hope people would comment on would be the accent!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.02.05 10:22 UTC
I met Trude at a Bristol Vet practice, and she was nice just inexperienced, but she never pretended to be allknowing about things that are not her area of expertise like that Emma Milne who make me want to scream with her pontification about dog breeding.
- By Isabel Date 05.02.05 10:35 UTC
Yes thats the impression I got, she's obviously a very intelligent person its hard enough to get into vet school let alone as a foreign national.  I think, like house officers in human hospitals, following training the experience has to be piled on and clearly her television exposure got in the way of that, although it has obviously let to lucrative benefits I wonder if she has any regrets as someone obviously dedicated enough to have done the training and then maybe compromising her career :)
- By rose [au] Date 05.02.05 07:52 UTC
Daisy, what unpleasant personal comment are you talking about??

I just cant figure out her accent, she just sounds south african to me.
- By michelled [gb] Date 05.02.05 09:55 UTC
god my dad used to drool at her.
- By rose [au] Date 05.02.05 10:05 UTC
She is really pretty :)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 05.02.05 10:44 UTC
Rose, I just found it very strange that someone should start a new thread with this sort of comment

Is it just me or is it almost unbearable to listen to Trude talk? Her accent grates on my brain, she sounds half south african/half pom

Maybe it's just me .....

- By archer [gb] Date 05.02.05 11:04 UTC
I think the 'comment' was made because she upset MANY dog owners by making a sweeping statement I believe about ALL pedigree dogs being unhealthy
Archer
- By Isabel Date 05.02.05 11:08 UTC
That was Emma Milne, Archer, I've never heard Trude speaking like that she is a sensible girl with a farming background :)
Even if it was her it wouldn't really have anything to do with her accent :)
- By archer [gb] Date 05.02.05 11:15 UTC
Ahh...ok....thought it was Trude..but you learn something new everyday!...Sorry Trude
I didn't mind her accent....thought it was ok.
- By digger [gb] Date 05.02.05 13:34 UTC
Trude the sensible girl?  That'll be the one who didn't advise the GSD who had the singleton pup by unplanned ceasearian that they would be unwise to breed her again......  The same one who was going to take a teeny weeny puppy home as an surprise present for her mother (sadly the pup died from parvo before it could get all the way to Norway.....)
- By Isabel Date 05.02.05 15:24 UTC
Don't remember the section case but I doubt they filmed the entire consultation so who knows what she said to them in full.  I do remember the puppy incident well, don't recall if it was a surprise for her mother but I do remember Trude crying and saying how she regretting trying to do the right thing and buy a puppy from a rescue place and that in future she would buy a pedigree from a responsible breeder which she duly did :)
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 05.02.05 15:58 UTC
It is also Emma Milne who I'm unimpressed with thought that this was obvious by my post too.  I know Trude and she is very nice, and as I say I couldn't say any more as she has one of my breeds of dog :d
- By Brainless [gb] Date 05.02.05 11:13 UTC
I would find that offensice too, my /dad has a strong accent even though he has spent 2/3rds of his life in this country.

I do admire anyone who would choose to go to University and study in a non native tongue.  I am sure she would have found it far easier to do her Vet training in a Norwegian Vet school, but I assume she wanted to learh English at the same time.

In her position I would have qualified first, and come to UK to work and improve language skills.
- By Isabel Date 05.02.05 11:21 UTC
I assumed it was because British veterinary schools were the best ;)
- By michelled [gb] Date 05.02.05 11:26 UTC
hi daisy,i didnt find the comment offensive.....but then im not her greatest fan,
each to their own!!!!
anyway some accents do get on people nerves,!!!!!! i could think of alot worse things to say but dont want to get sued!!!!
- By Isabel Date 05.02.05 11:28 UTC
I think its about learning to seperate an issue with their opinions from their personal being.
- By michelled [gb] Date 05.02.05 11:34 UTC
daisy, you arent trude are you? that would be embarressing!!!!!!
- By Daisy [gb] Date 05.02.05 12:37 UTC
LOL - not even blonde - let alone pretty :D and certainly not Norwegian :D

Daisy
- By michelled [gb] Date 05.02.05 12:40 UTC
[phew!!!!!!!!
im sure you are prettey though!!!!!

does any one else ever think "shouldnt have wrote that" what if THEY are on here.....even just as a lurker!!!!
- By Moonmaiden Date 05.02.05 13:03 UTC
LOL Mish you are a southerner aren't you, up north in God's own county we somewhat known for being John Blunt & any comments would have been made to her face, we had one of the Vets in P up here at a very swish state of the art vet surgery which was in the VIP series, this VIP star went to a farmer & was messing about preganancy testing some heifers The farmer said off camera "tha's as much use as a open door"to which she burst into tears Now if had said that to my Glaswegian vet she would have jumped back with a glaswegian retort & then had a good laugh, & she didn't even get filmed trying to do the arm up the bum, the camera where actually going to film the next visit.

Must admit tho'I could have taken any of those vet brothers home !!!!

English is actually not my first language not that anyone can tell just like Jan Molby who has a very strong Liverpool accent but who is in fact a Dane & whose first language is Danish & who learnt all his english whilst in Liverpool !
- By michelled [gb] Date 05.02.05 13:16 UTC
i just remeber ALOT of animals dying under one who shall remain nameless ! at one point i dont think they showed that vet saving ONE animal!
im sure they did help some.......just never showed it :(
hopefully they werent just showing the good bits :O
- By rose [au] Date 06.02.05 01:37 UTC
Maybe it's just me .....

Daisy i think it is just you,i still dont get what part you found offensive,i truly dont?? Please explain :)

Alot of accents are annoying, including mine, sometimes i hear my voice and just think "shut up"!!
- By Daisy [gb] Date 06.02.05 09:19 UTC
If you don't understand, then there is little point in me explaining further

Daisy
- By rose [au] Date 06.02.05 10:28 UTC
No,no,no. you brought it up,if you didnt want to back it up then you shouldnt have said anything :)

Dont just say some vague statement and then not bother to explain!
- By digger [gb] Date 06.02.05 10:48 UTC
I think it's got a lot to do with tolerance, we all have different degrees of tolerance for different things, so people are more tolerant than others........
- By rose [au] Date 06.02.05 11:07 UTC
I dont mean to be narky. I am genuinely interested.

It's true, nothing much offends me,which is probaly why i find it hard to understand other peoples intolerances, hence the reason of WHY i keep asking Daisy to explain,i reeeaaally want to know why and what :)
- By SharonM Date 06.02.05 12:05 UTC
Trude used to be in partnership with Maria, but has moved on and had a baby since.  I did see Trude a few times and thought she was  very good , always really jolly and friendly and definitely a good vet, I think all the things we saw of her on TV was her 'student' days, she definitely improved with age.........lol.  I'm still with Viking Vets, Maria Lowe is the vet, she is excellent too (and only a 2 minute drive from home) although she's not open out of hours, she has given me her home number for emergencies!

I think they are both great!
- By Daisy [gb] Date 06.02.05 20:08 UTC
Rose

I don't think that there is much point reiterating but, as you have insisted ....  I merely stated that I didn't understand why you had felt it necessary to start a new thread with a rather critical comment about someone's accent. I also find it hard sometimes to 'understand other people's intolerances'.

That's it from me - I can't be bothered to keep trying to explain myself - nor should I have to

Daisy
- By Spook [gb] Date 06.02.05 20:43 UTC
I like her accent as it's the same accent alot of my friends have and I'm quite at home with it. Any woman who pickles balls gets admiration from me :D I've always liked her, it's hard to criticise someone who comes across as being truly nice natured. She has made a career out of helping animals, surely a dog forum is the last place people should slate her....
- By rose [au] Date 06.02.05 21:11 UTC
OMG! Did i say, she's a bitch or i cant stand her??No i didnt,i did not attack her personality, nor would i,she comes accross as a nice person. The point of  the thread was "DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HER ACCENT IS" to which i have not recieved a reply yet! She does not sound norwegian to me,thats all!!
Honestly,a couple of you need to grow a skin,it was a simple question, that required a simple answer,i did not expect a 40 something post thread, nor did i expect POINTLESS posts,of gee you shouldnt pick on her,or what an offensive comment!!

She has made a career out of helping animals, surely a dog forum is the last place people should slate her....
If i made an attack gainst her personality or had a go at her for whatever reason, then maybe i would have expected a few barby comments. I wouldnt post this question on any other forum BUT a dog one, because she is a vet,and most non-doggy people wouldnt know who she is or anything about her!

Lighten up!!
- By kayc [gb] Date 06.02.05 21:15 UTC
Did any of you actually watch vets in practice, when Trude first came to this country as a very young student vet?
